One day after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers waived former second-round pick, Roberto Aguayo, has had a new home. The Chicago Bears have claimed the kicker of off waivers to have him compete for their starting job. Plus, the Baltimore Ravens have continued their backup quarterback carousel by waiving one quarterback and signing another one.

Bears added Aguayo, create kicking competition

Yesterday the Chicago Bears claimed Roberto Aguayo off of waivers to compete for their kicking job. Ironically enough, he will be competing with veteran Connor Barth, who the Buccaneers released after they drafted Aguayo in the second-round of the 2016 draft. To make room for Aguayo, the team placed veteran receiver Ruben Randle on injured reserve following his hamstring injury during Thursday's preseason game.

Last season with the Bears, Barth was 18-23 (78.3%) on field goals and was 31-32 (96.9%) on extra points. During the Bears first preseason game, he made a 25-yard field goal and both extra point attempts.

For his part last year, Aguayo was 22-31 (71%) on field goals and 32-34 (94.1%) on extra points. When asked about the addition of Aguayo, Barth said: “My parents always said, bring on the competition.”

Ravens continue quarterback carousel

About two weeks ago the Baltimore Ravens quarterback carousel started following news of Joe Flacco's back injury. Ryan Mallett is holding down the backup job, but the third-string quarterback spot is up for grabs. First, the team signed David Olson to compete with Dustin Vaughn, but he was gone after three days. They then added Josh Woodrum to replace Olson.

However, Vaughn only threw one pass in Thursday's preseason game against the Redskins and was sacked three times.

Woodrum was 4/4 with 85 yards and a touchdown pass. Now, Vaughn has been released by the team after his unimpressive preseason performance. The Ravens then signed veteran journeyman quarterback Thaddeus Lewis to compete with Woodrum.

Lewis entered the league as an undrafted player out of Duke in 2010 with the Rams. Now, the Ravens will be the ninth different team that he has been a member of. He has NFL experience, having played in 7 games and started 5 of them, compiling a 2-3 record. However, he has not thrown a regular season pass since 2013. He has an 81.3 quarterback rating, a 60.8 competition percentage, 1,296 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions in his NFL career.
