WNBA game preview

As of right now, the Minnesota Lynx own the best overall record in the West and the WNBA, sitting at a recent 8-0.

However, three teams are below them with nearly identical records. The Phoenix Mercury and Seattle Storm are each 5-3, while the Los Angeles Sparks are 4-3. Today's game will possibly factor into how things shake up down the stretch towards the playoffs.

Phoenix is just 2-2 at home, while the Sparks are 1-3 on the road. The Mercury are coming off a 98-90 win over the Indiana Fever in which Brittney Griner scored a career-high 38 points, snatched nine rebounds, dished out three assists, and swatted away two shots. Teammate Diana Taurasi added 17 points, while Leilani Mitchell came off the bench to score 14.

The Sparks are coming off a 96-90 road win against the Dallas Wings, but have won two of their last three games.

In the Dallas loss, the Sparks led 71-64 heading into the final quarter, but the Wings went on a 32-19 stretch to finish the game out in their favor. Candace Parker had 25 points, while reigning WNBA MVP Nneka Ogwumike had 28 points and 12 rebounds. Even though Los Angeles shot 50 percent on the road, Dallas kept fighting to the end.

Right now, the Wings are a few games behind Los Angeles for the final playoff spot in the standings, so the Sparks will need to keep on winning.

In terms of game odds, the Phoenix Mercury opened as two-point favorites on the spread, but have since fallen to 1-1/2 point favorites. Per Vegas Insider, he over/under points total is 162 points for the complete game, at a variety of sports books.
