At this point the Indiana Pacers still have the services of three all NBA player Paul George, however, according to reports, he is already trying to make moves behind closed doors to have a chance of teaming up with Klay Thompson two times NBA champion shooting guard of the Golden State Warriors. According to Kelenna Azubuike of NBC Sports Bay Area Thompson has discussed with George the scenario of teaming up to play together for the Los Angeles when the three-time all-star hits the free agency market after the conclusion of the 2018-19 NBA season.
Paul George has made his intentions clear
Paul George is still under contract with the Indiana Pacers for one more guaranteed year. As reported on June 18 by Adrian Wojnarowski of the vertical the four-time all-star has made his intentions clear to the Pacers front office that he has no plans to re-sign with the Pacers next season. George's preferred destination for his next stage of his career is with the Los Angeles Lakers Wojnarowski also reported this news.
While the scenario of Klay Thompson leaving the Golden State Warriors does seem unrealistic the task of resigning him to a new contract extension may not be a natural process for Bob Myers general manager of the Warriors, The Warriors have benefited from their main core players being on team-friendly deals.
However, this is no longer the case now that Green and Thompson have both recently signed extensions and Stephen Curry more than likely signing a max contract deal this summer in upcoming free agency period.
The price of these three all Stars in addition to retaining the services of Shaun Livingston, Kevin Durant, and Andre Iguodala.
Will all have a significant effect on the payroll of the Golden State Warriors. This scenario does not mean however that Klay Thompson leaving the Warriors is extremely likely. But there is a chance Thompson may leave if financial problems force Bob Myers to pick between Green who hits the free agency market in the following summer of 2020 or Thompson.
Klay Thompson to the Lakers is a pipe dream
However, the fact that Klay Thompson will sign with the Los Angeles Lakers is a whole other scenario. At this point, the Lakers do have a group of young but talented players they further added to this at home Barclays Center last Thursday night when during the 2017 NBA draft they added Lonzo Ball with the second pick. However, even if the Lakers do manage to obtain the services of Paul George, the Lakers may still be considered pretenders instead of contenders during the year of 2019.
Pitching Klay Thompson to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers will be a difficult task to do when you take into the fact that Thompson has won two championships in the last three seasons and will more than likely add to this total in the foreseeable.
