Joanna Jedrzejczyk may be tiny but she is currently one of the UFC's biggest stars. The current straw weight Champion, Jedrzejczyk has proven to be a worthy adversary for any of her challengers. At UFC 211 in Dallas she defended her belt for the fifth time and is already eyeing her sixth title defense, which would tie her with mega star Rhonda Rousey's record.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk is small but fierce
Joanna Jedrzejczyk is the epitome of William Shakespeare's famous line: "Though she be but little, she is fierce!" Jedrzejczyk looks tiny when she weighs in for her fights, her 115 lbs looks like it would blow away in the wind.
Jedrzejczyk is no pushover, however -- once she steps in the ring she is undeniably fierce, unrelenting, and brutally fast. She is currently the number one pound for pound female fighter in the world, the number one straw weight in the world, and in the rankings of mixed male and female fighters she is the top female fighter. Jedrzejczyk's background of Muay Thai and boxing has provided her with a ferocious arsenal of deadly knees and lighting fast hands. Jedrzejczyk also has immaculate timing developed over years of combat and a constantly evolving skill level that has seen her to victory after many hard fought battles in the cage.
In her most recent title defense at UFC 211 in Dallas, Jedrzejczyk won a decisive victory.
She outclassed her opponent, Jessica Andrade, by a wide margin both in striking and kicks as she landed each at will. She also successfully defended Andrade's takedowns and made the Brazilian pay every time Andrade came close to her. The victory over such a well-known grappler only served to solidify Jedrzejczyk as a well-rounded, multi-talented mixed martial artist.
What's next for Joanna Jedrzejczyk?
After her fifth title defense she is taking a little time off to enjoy life. She spent some time on the beach in South Florida before making a trip to her homeland of Poland. The question as to what comes next for the UFC’s smallest champion is never far away, however, and already the question is who will she fight next and when will that fight take place?
Rumors are circulating that Rose Namajunas, who just won a fight with against “Karate Hottie” Michelle Waterson, may be the next title contender. Namajunes has taken her skill set to another level and has lobbied to have a title shot. Jedrzejczyk said that she would fight whomever Dana White and the UFC gave her, however, right now she wants to focus on her fiancé and her family.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk may be, size wise, the smallest of the UFC’s champions. Regardless of that fact, however, she is mighty in the range of her skills, in the amount of her drive, and most importantly, the size of her heart.
