Stanislas Wawrinka defeated Jozef Kovalik in straight sets to reach the second round of the French Open. Meanwhile, Andy Murray beat Andrey Kuznetsov 3-1, while Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic passed the first round with convincing wins against their opponents.
Wawrinka is playing well
„Stan the Man“ came to Paris after winning his first title of the season in Geneva and he didn't have much problems in the first round. He beat Slovak Jozef Kovalik 6-2 7-6 6-3 after two hours of play. Wawrinka saved three set points in the second set tie-break and won five consecutive points to take a 2-0 lead.
He finished the job in the third set, as he'll play against Alexander Dolgopolov in the second round.
Impressive wins for Nadal and Djokovic
Rafael Nadal started the tournament with a big win over Benoit Paire. The nine-time French Open champion beat the Frenchman in straight sets. Paire's only chance was in the second set when he had a 3-1 lead, but Rafa quickly responded with the break of his own. He finished the set in the tenth game on Paire's serve. Nadal's next opponent is Robin Haase.
Novak Djokovic also opened the french open strongly, as he lost only nine games to Marcel Granollers-Pujol. Granollers saved eight set points in the ninth game of the second set, but then Djokovic took advantage of his ninth set point in the next game to take a 2-0 lead.
The defending champion broke the Spaniard's serve eight times in the match. He will play against Joao Sousa in the second round.
Murray, Del Potro, Isner advanced to the second round
The No.1 seed Andy Murray beat Andrey Kuznetsov in four sets after 2 hours and 34 minutes to reach the second round. Murray's next opponent is Martin Klizan, who defeated Laurent Lokoli in five sets.
Juan Martin Del Potro decided to compete in the French Open, after some issues with the wrist injury and he was very impressive in his first match. Del Potro defeated the qualifier Guido Pella, while losing only seven games, as he will play against Nicolas Almagro in the second round.
John Isner continues to play well on the clay.
After a great tournament in Rome, he started this competition with a win over Jordan Thompson. Isner won 6-3 4-6 7-6 6-3 and will play Paolo Lorenzi in the next round.
Renzo Olivo's win against Jo-Wilfred Tsonga is the biggest upset in the first round. The young Argentinian played the best match of his life, as he beat the Frenchman 7-5 6-4 6-7 6-4.
