The indianapolis colts were once the team to beat in the AFC South and seemed on the cusp of greatness under the leadership of quarterback Andrew Luck. However, the Colts have finished the last two seasons with an 8-8 record and missed the playoffs both times as the Houston Texans have taken control of the AFC South. ESPN reported that Andrew Luck admitted today that he injured his shoulder in 2015 and has not been 100-percent since that time.

Andrew Luck's injury

According to Andrew Luck, he injured his right shoulder while playing in the 2015 NFL season.

However, Luck said that he discussed it with the Indianapolis Colts and they chose to have him pass on having surgery on his shoulder after the 2015 season ended, preferring to just rehab it instead during the offseason. After missing the NFL playoffs for the second straight season, Luck finally decided it was time for him to have the surgery to reconstruct his shoulder.

Andrew Luck reinjured the shoulder in a game against the Denver Broncos in 2016 and decided that he needed to have surgery on it. He said that he feels very comfortable with the surgeon and the plan to get him ready to lead the Colts again in the 2017 NFL season. Andrew said that he got a lot of quality advice before making the decision and said that it feels right this offseason to go ahead and pull the trigger on the procedure.

The Indianapolis Colts in 2017

When it comes to the 2017 NFL season, the Indianapolis Colts need more than just a healthy Andrew Luck if they want to turn things around. The Houston Texans have the best defense in the NFL and if they find a quarterback to lead them, they will compete for the AFC South crown once again. The Tennessee Titans also have improved a great deal and look like they are ready to take the next step in their progression.

The Indianapolis Colts might end up as the third best team in the AFC South if they don't improve quickly.

Luck's injury originally occurred when the Colts played the Tennessee Titans all the way back in Week 3 of the 2015 NFL season. Luck missed two games, returned to play in four, and then lacerated his kidney. Instead of fixing his shoulder at that time, he put off the surgery and might have cost the Colts some wins in 2017 as a result.

Andrew reinjured his shoulder in Week 2 of the 2016 NFL season when he tried to make a tackle after an interception. Andrew Luck played in 15 games anyway, and while his stats were good, the Colts never recovered.
