The Rock 'n' Roll Express were a team of legends in the heyday of wrestling. The tag team split time in the 90's with WCW and WWF. That is where you would know them best. The Express were one of the best good guy tag teams in wrestling. Holding the World Tag belt in many different promotions. They were surprisingly inducted into the WWE HOF over the weekend. Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson were the duo that made up the tag team.

History of the Express

The Rock 'n' Roll Express were formed in Memphis Tennessee in 1983. The head booker for the event was Jerry Lawler.

The team was paired together as a contrast to a popular team called The Fabulous Ones. The plan was to put in the Express when The Fabulous Ones couldn't make it to certain towns. As they got more popular the tag team saw themselves making it to Mid-South Wrestling where they started their feud against the Midnight Express, managed by Jim Cornette. While the Midnight Express was celebrating the newly acquired tag title, the Rock 'n' Roll express proceeded to shove Jim Cornette's face into a cake. This kicked over the rivalry which carried into the National Wrestling Alliance or the NWA, which started in the 1940s.

WWE Hall of Fame induction

On February 6 the WWE announced it would be honoring the Rock 'n' Roll Express with an induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.

The two were the epitome of 90's wrestling tag teams. Rick and Robert had fun feuds with the four horsemen in WCW and also the Midnight Express with the man everyone loved to hate, Jim Cornette. Rickey was very surprised by the call saying, "It was a surprise," Rick told CBS Sports. "I had a message on my phone [from WWE] to call the number back.

I think they got ahold of Robert at the time. When they called, it was just like a sucker punch. It just knocked us off our feet. It's an honor for Ricky and me to go into the hall of fame," Gibson added.

The tag team announced they they were being inducted by Jim Cornette. Most people know Jim as the tennis racket-wielding manager who spent decades pitting teams against the Express.

Cornette went on about the induction, saying that after matches people gave the team gifts and pictures, showing their love for the tag team. Their careers have been running concurrently for 34 years now.
