There comes a time when you need to hang it up and I'm happy that Vitor Belfort understands that finally. Vitor Belfort is on my Mount Rushmore of fighters. When he was young, just starting in the UFC, he was a world beater. In his first run in the UFC at age 19, he supported that with a 7-1 record, only losing to the legend Randy Couture. Vitor Belfort's early days saw him put together major highlights that are still running on all highlight shows to this day.

Now, his Career is coming to an end after UFC Fight Night 106.

He took a bad loss to Kelvin Gastelum in the Main Event on Saturday night. Vitor announced shortly after the fight at the press conference that UFC 212 in his hometown of Rio, Brazil will be his last fight. “It's time to end this chapter as a professional fighter,” Belfort said. “My body is not the same anymore for training. It’s too much pain. I did more than 14 surgeries. I left everything in the Octagon. I’m sad because I didn’t give the win to my fellow Brazilians, but it happens.”

Getting past by young talent

In the Middleweight division, Vitor Belfort has gone against some great fighters recently. The most recent fight against the Ultimate Fighter 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum didn't end well for him.

Kelvin dominated Belfort in the first round, ending the fight just 3:52 into it. Gastelum went through heavy punches from Vitor, but he could never connect solidly. Picking his shots against Vitor caused Kelvin to land a flush right hook and a straight left combo that floored him. After Vitor went down, Gastelum pounced with some ground and pound.

Not in any hurry to finish the 39-year-old, the Ultimate fighter winner got up and was looking for the finish. After the reset, Kelvin landed a straight right that ended the fight after a few standing hammer fists. The fight will be a nice springboard for Kelvin to get a big name in the middleweight division.

Next up for Vitor

After the fight the main take away from Vitor Belfort's press conference is that he is ready to be done. Vitor being a headliner whenever he fights is having trouble with the training involved for a five-round affair. He hinted to the UFC brass that if they create a legends division, he could continue a little longer. Vitor, in his last fight, doesn't want to fight a Brazilian, ruling out a possible rematch with Anderson Silva. He will sit down with the UFC soon to figure it out. Hopefully a great super fight can end his career.
