The Green Bay Packers started the 2016 NFL season 4-6. Then Aaron Rodgers rattled off ten straight wins to make it to the NFL playoffs. Green Bay then beat the Dallas Cowboys on the road before getting hammered by the Falcons in their next game. For the Packers to win another Super Bowl, they'll need to address a few glaring issues in the NFL draft. Here's a quick look at the positions the Packers should be targeting to help Aaron Rodgers out.
1. Cornerback.
Anybody who watched the NFC championship game immediately recognized the major flaw in Green Bay: the secondary.
Atlanta's wide receivers were able to get open with ease and Matt Ryan easily marched down the field on almost every possession. Some potential draft candidates include Marshon Lattimore, Teez Tabor, and Marlon Humphrey. If the Packers don't address this issue of need in the draft, they'll have to seek out another free agent cornerback like Stephon Gilmore to bolster the secondary.
2. Running Back.
As great as Ty Montgomery was for the Packers, he's not a real running back. For the Packers to succeed, they'll need to draft someone other than Eddie Lacy at the position. And there's talent in the draft! Leonard Fournette, Dalvin Cook, and Christian McCaffery are all unbelievable prospects at the position.
It would be shocking if one of them wasn't available when the Packers were ready to make draft selections.
3. Linebacker.
Key departures at the linebacker position mean that the Packers will have to address the position in either the draft or free agency. Julius Peppers, Nick Perry, and Datone Jones will all become free agents.
Green Bay can choose to go after players like Chandler Jones and Melvin Ingram or simply draft a prospect instead. Potential draft targets include Zach Cunningham from Vanderbilt and Tim Williams from Alabama.
In any case, the Packers will need to bolster their roster to compete for another Super Bowl. The play of defense should be prioritized first, as Rodgers can make things work no matter what the scenario is. Fans can only hope that the Packers draft either a linebacker or a cornerback in the first round.
