There are a lot of crime dramas that have Partners complete with a history, crazy cases, and friendship. For this list, I look at the chemistry between the two actors (or actresses), intriguing background for the characters, and the way they make you feel like it’s a slightly safer place because they work together to fight crime.

'The Wire'

Partners: Detectives Jimmy McNulty (Dominic West) and William “The Bunk” Moreland (Wendell Pierce).

This show was a hidden gem that is finally getting the recognition it deserves. Despite the fact that McNulty and Moreland are rarely in the same scene, when they are, it is real, humorous, and human.

Whether it's taking care of the other person while drunk, solving a case by just saying the f-word for four minutes, or covering up illegal activity, these two are there for each other.

'The Killing'

Partners: Detectives Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) and Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman).

Four seasons, three cases, and countless car rides later, these two are a fan-favorite. One of the most touching episodes that depict the complexities of relationships (personal and professional) is "Missing." In this episode, the duo looks for Linden’s missing son and bonds through a real struggle. Throughout the series, they argue, bicker, joke, laugh, and make us root for them to solve their cases and find happiness.

The chemistry between the actors also made it a huge wish for many fans that the characters be romantically involved. Other fans argued that it should strictly stay professional with a side of platonic best friends. Shippers and non-shippers alike can agree on one thing - Linden and Holder were meant to be partners.

'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit'

Partners: Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and Detective turned Lieutenant Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay).

Despite Benson having had other partners during the shows almost two-decade run, the favorite will always be Stabler. For 12 seasons, we watched as these two were there for each other.

They had many cases together, fighting some of the worst crimes imaginable. They saved each other’s lives, protected the other’s family, went undercover in many situations (including as husband and wife, a fan-favorite), and put their hearts and souls into every case. No matter how many years it has been since these two were on the same case, it just isn’t the same without these two dedicated detectives investigating vicious felonies together.
