ABC's hit medical show "Grey's Anatomy" definitely wouldn't be the same without its many steamy love affairs. Meredith's relationship with McDreamy set the tone for all the other romances that would inevitably follow, and some of them have managed to match the intensity and popularity of the show's original romance. While the suspense of saving a patient's life in the face of grim odds does make for compelling television, it's the many different romantic entanglements that really keep so many viewers coming back week after week.

New couples spring up every season, and former lovers rekindle their old flames all the time.

By now it's become expected, and season 14 hasn't disappointed in providing a new couple that has fans' tongues wagging. I'm talking about Maggie Pierce and Jackson Avery, of course. They're a couple that came so out of left field that it left numerous viewers going, "huh?"

Since the start of season 14, the writers have tried really hard to convince fans that Jaggie is a thing that definitely needs to happen. Unfortunately for them, many of us just aren't feeling it.

Maggie and Jackson – where exactly is the fire?

No offense to Jesse Williams and Kelly McCreary, but their scenes together could put me to sleep. There's no excitement or any kind of romantic flair between them. There's no obvious spark that has me feeling excited about where things will go between them.

They're supposed to be madly in love with each other, but I don't see any kind of enthusiasm from either of them.

Their scenes are awkward at best, and tedious at worst. It feels as if neither of them really know what to do with the other, or how to approach the romantic relationship their characters are now being forced into.

Every kiss feels more like a chore than an act of desire, and that makes it really hard to watch when it's obvious even the actors themselves can't really get behind what's happening. In episode 14, the writers had to rely on a guest character to sell fans the idea that the air around Maggie and Jackson is always teeming with sexual tension.

If the actors themselves can't convince me they're head over heels for each other, how in the world is a guest actress supposed to do it?

Enough with the 'will they, won't they?' routine

I thought that after their underwhelming kiss at the end of episode 14 we would finally be done with this awkward song and dance. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case. Their long-awaited dinner was suddenly canceled during Thursday's episode when Jackson had to step up and take care of Harriet after April had yet another meltdown. Maggie went out of her way to reassure Jackson that waiting would only make their eventual "dinner" more worth it. Except I don't want to wait anymore, Maggie. It's like ripping off a Band-Aid – please just do it.

We know they're definitely going to end up together. Since it's been confirmed that Sarah Drew is leaving the show, there's absolutely no chance for any kind of reconciliation between Jackson and April, no matter how much fans wish for one. Jackson and Maggie have no longer become a question of if but of when, and given that their courtship has been an absolute nightmare so far, I'm ready for that when to be now.

Maybe when they're finally official, every other character can stop reminding me how strange it is that Maggie and Jackson are suddenly romantically interested in each other. I'm not sure if this is an attempt at humor, or if fans are being teased for not seeing it coming back during season 13. Either way, can it please be over now?

"Grey's Anatomy" airs Thursdays on ABC.
