Actor Mark Salling, known for his role as bad boy Noah “Puck” Puckerman on the television show, “Glee” has passed away at the age of 35.

He is suspected to have died of an apparent suicide. According to TMZ, police were called to investigate a riverbed area in Sunland and found Mark Salling hanging. His body was discovered by police after running the registration tags on an abandoned vehicle at the location and learning it belonged to Sailing who has already been reported missing. They found him while searching the area.

Salling had checkered past

A month ago, the actor pled guilty to possession of child pornography and was expecting to be sentenced in March. He was facing four to five years in prison. In October 2017, TMZ reported that Salling had attempted suicide by cutting his wrists prior to striking his deal for the child pornography case, but his lawyers denied it.

Prior to his conviction, police found 50,000 images of child pornography and erotica on his computers and a thumb drive after searching his home, following a tip from a woman he was dating.

Tragic history

In 2013, Cory Monteith, who played popular jock, Finn Hudson, shocked "Glee" fans with his sudden death from an overdose. He was discovered in a Vancouver hotel room and died at the age of 31 leaving the show to also put his character to rest in an episode called, “Quarterback”.

As the lead of the show, the creator, Ryan Murphy had to revamp the show and storylines. Monteith had a history of drug use and attempts at rehabilitation.

Actress Becca Tobin, who portrayed cheerleader nemesis Kitty Wilde on the show, was in the news after her boyfriend, Matt Bendik was found dead in a hotel in Philadelphia in 2014.

His body was found by police after they were called to Hotel Monaco. As a nightclub entrepreneur, he was in Philadephia conducting business. There were no signs of foul play or suicide and no drugs in the room.

Most recently, actress Naya Rivera, who played cheerleader, Santana Lopez, was arrested for misdemeanor domestic battery of her husband, Ryan Dorsey.

She was arrested Thanksgiving weekend in 2017 following an argument with her husband where he says she was drinking heavily. The charges were eventually dropped by Dorsey in earlier this year and Rivera has filed for divorce.

The show “Glee” ran on the Fox network from 2009 to 2015 and was created by Ryan Murphy. Mark Salling was a regular on the show for four seasons and then became a recurring cast member during the last two seasons. Salling is survived by his mother, father, and brother.

With the many instances of tragedy, rumors of a curse surrounding the actors have become an urban myth. It's odd that a show that was built on feel-good storylines and resilient characters could have such a dark history behind the scenes, but comedy and tragedy, are intimately linked.
