Black excellence is on the rise in Hollywood, 2017 has been a great year for young black actors and directors, as we come to the end of a great year we look ahead to see who will continue to champion black pride in Hollywood for 2018.

Who to watch in 2018

1. Issa Rae

At just 32 years old, Issa Rae has made her mark in Hollywood with her hit tv show on HBO "Insecure" and winning over the affections of both the public and her fellow actors with her unique creativity and beautifully awkward personality. Issa was honored this year by Essence for her work and is now working on developing two new shows for HBO, and with season 3 of Insecure on the way in 2018, Issa Rae shows no signs of slowing down.

2. John Boyega

This British hottie burst onto the scene in 2015 with the revival of the star wars movie franchise as Finn, Boyega has since went on to star in 2017 movies such as "The Circle," "Detroit," and "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." He will star in the second installment of Pacific Rim set for release in 2018, where he will play Jake Pentecost the son of Stacker Pentecost played by Idris Elba in the first film. Just 25 years old John is already making a name for himself in Hollywood and has even been compared to the likes of Academy award winner Denzel Washington, fans are definitely excited to see whats next for the very charming chap from England.

3. Yara Shahidi

17-year-old Yara is achieving excellence both on and off screen, while still in high school she landed the role of Zoey Johnson on the sitcom "Black-ish." Shahidi graduated high school earlier this year and was accepted to one of the most elite Universities in the states, Harvard.

it was later announced that she would be staring in the Black-ish spinoff called Grown-ish which is set to premiere in early 2018.

4. Michael B. Jordan

Michael has spent many years working tirelessly as an actor taking on small roles and making a name for himself in Hollywood. In 2015 Jordan starred alongside Sylvester Stallone in the critically acclaimed sports drama Creed which won him a several accolades for best actor.

The 30 year old is set to star as Erik Killmonger in the much anticipated marvel movie Black Panther and is set for release in February of 2018.

5. Lupita Nyong'o

There is just no stopping this beauty, her breakthrough role came in 2013 when she was cast in "12 Years A Slave," the film was awarded best picture at the 86th Academy Award in 2014.

she has gone on to star in "The Jungle Book," "Queen of Katwe" and "Star Wars." 2018 will look just as bright for her as nay other, she will star in the "Black Panther" movie alongside Chadwick Bosseman and Michael B. Jordan.
