Following Kevin Spacey’s recent sexual assault claims, Netflix announced that they’ll be concluding “house of cards” after Season 6 despite its high ratings. Actor Anthony Rapp claimed that Spacey allegedly made advances at him in 1986 when the former was still 14 years old. After Rapp’s allegations, Spacey came out and disclosed that he had relationships with both men and women.

However, the LGBTQ community scorned the 58-year old actor for suddenly coming out. Some pointed out that the actor was trying to justify the allegation by confirming his sexuality, which wasn’t supposed to be the case in the first place.

The backlash against Spacey has forced Netflix to cancel “House of Cards” because the network found the issue deeply troubling.

Season 6 is the final season

The Netflix show is currently one of the most popular shows, that when it was first released, it was bombarded with positive reviews. The series was so good that it received countless nominations with its casts winning Best Actor and Best Actress awards. The series premiered in February 2013, and if it wasn’t for the issue surrounding Spacey, the show would have probably lasted for more than six seasons. On October 30, Netflix announced that the 13-episode sixth season of the show, which is set to debut in 2018, will be the final installment.

Netflix and Media Rights Capital, who produced “House of Cards,” released a joint statement on Monday, revealing that they were troubled with the news concerning Spacey. The actor reportedly didn’t show up to the set for a scheduled shoot. Showrunner Beau Willimon admitted that he was shocked with the allegation because he never saw Spacey engaging in inappropriate behavior on set or off, but because he took reports on such behavior seriously, he said there will be no exception.

“House of Cards” is set in Washington, DC during the 2010s, and it revolves around the story of a Democrat named Congressman Francis “Frank” Underwood, who is portrayed by Spacey. As soon as Frank Underwood was appointed Secretary of State, he initiated an elaborate plan to climb the top of the government. Ultimately, the show delivers a ruthless story revolving politics, manipulation, and power.

The show’s cast included actors Robin Wright, Kate Mara, Corey Stoll, Michael Kelly, Kirsten Connolly, Sakina Jaffrey, and more.

Possible spin-off

With Netflix finally pulling the plug from “House of Cards,” the network is now reportedly considering to create a spin-off of the show. The series was no doubt a great show, and Netflix would definitely want to bank on new shows with similar formats. HBO has already started this trend after announcing that they’re working on five spin-offs in preparation for the impending conclusion of “Game of Thrones.” There are no announcements yet if Spacey will be involved in the possible spin-off.
