Director A.R Murugadoss’s upcoming spy thriller "Spyder " is one of the most highly anticipated films of 2017. Recently, Atmus Entertainment revealed that the Mahesh Babu starring film will be released across 800 screens in the U.S.
Murugadoss-Mahesh collaboration to be a courageous feat
“Spyder” is a Tamil-Telegu bilingual film, which is the first collaboration of director A.R Murugadoss and superstar Mahesh Babu. The plot is based on the theme of bio-terrorism, where Mahesh plays the role of an Intelligence Bureau officer and actress Rakul Preet Singh plays the female lead.
Apart from RJ Balaji, Priyadarshi Pullikonda, the film also features filmmaker S.J. Suryah in the role of the prime antagonist. The cinematographer of the film is none other than Santosh Sivan, while the editor and music composer is A. Sreekar and Harris Jayraj respectively.
The 'Spyder' teaser offers a glimpse of the grand clash
After S. S. Rajamouli's “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion,” which dominated over 1,000 screens across the U.S., "Spyder" will be the second Biggest Indian Release and also the biggest release in Mahesh Babu’s career. The teaser of the film was released on the 41st birthday of the superstar and promises a grand brawl between Suryah and Mahesh. It shows the superstar engaged with his computer, while his pet, a tech-spider emerges and climbs up to him.
The teaser was released in both languages and the Tamil version was dubbed by the actor himself.
The overall budget of the film is approximately $18.5 million and will be released over 800 screens in the U.S. “Spyder” will premiere across 400 screens in various locations and the collection from the premiere shows is estimated to be more than two million.
The director shares his experience
According to NDTV, actress Rakul Preet Singh was overwhelmed about working with Mahesh Babu and Murugadoss. The actress revealed that she signed the project even before listening to the narration because of the deadly combination. “I have always wanted to work with Murugadoss sir and also with Mahesh Babu," said the co-star of Mahesh.
Director Murugadoss admitted that it is an arduous task to make an "authentic bilingual" film, and to ensure the authenticity, the crew had to shoot some of the sequences twice.
Produced by Tagore Madhu, “Spyder" is all set to hit the worldwide theatres on September 27, with the U.S. premieres being scheduled on September 26.
