Jordana Brewster urged her former Fast And Furious co-star, Michelle Rodriguez, to come back to the franchise. The “American Crime Story” star has expressed her hope that Rodriguez will be in the next film.

Jordana Brewster said that she is excited about the future of the film series, especially with the news that there is a possibility of there being a spin-off that will star Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. She, however, said that it would be a better thing if Rodriguez also decides to go back to the series as she was such an integral part of the plot.

She professed her love for both her character and Michelle Rodriguez.

Rodriguez out

When the eighth film in the “Fast and Furious” franchise was released on digital platforms, Michelle Rodriguez infamously said that she was reconsidering her return to the next entry in the series. In an Instagram post, she explicitly threatened to leave the Vin Diesel-starring series as she felt that the previous films did not portray strong female characters.

That said, Rodriguez still expressed that she is thankful for the opportunity she had with the franchise due to the millions of its millions of fans worldwide. Michelle Rodriguez stars as Leticia “Letty” Ortiz in the “Fast and Furious” series, who is a street racer and the wife of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel).

Warning signs

Rodriguez already previously spoke out about the films’ inequalities. She said that while she understands that it is logical for the film to be male-focused because of its setting in the criminal underworld, it may send the wrong message to female fans of the movies. She also blamed the growth of the series’ box office fortunes in overseas markets as a deterrent to the movies growing out of its “90s macho vibe.”

The last appearance of Michelle Rodriguez was in this year’s “Fate and the Furious,” which saw the addition of two major female cast members in the form of Oscar winners Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron.

However, Rodriguez, who has appeared in five of the eight films in the series so far, experienced less screen time, with most of the focus on the characters of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Diesel.

The ninth entry in the “Fast and Furious” series, tentatively called “Fast & the Furious 9,” will be in theaters on Friday, April 19, 2019.

The tenth one is already scheduled for an April 2021 release as well. Rodriguez will next be seen in “Alita: Battle Angel” with Mahershala Ali and Rosa Salazar while Jordana Brewster was last seen in the ABC miniseries “Secrets and Lies.”
