Tom Cruise is reportedly getting ready for production of the “Top Gun” sequel.

Top Gun 2” was announced in January 2017, and Cruise had signed up for the project in April 2018. As of now, he is practicing his flying skills for the new movie. The actor was recently clicked with two flight crews before getting on board a helicopter.

Tom pilots the helicopter for a spin

The actor runs across an airfield and pilots a helicopter as he trains for “Top Gun 2” in Oxfordshire. The Daily Mail reports that filming for the sequel is set to begin in January 2018 and Cruise takes preparations very seriously.

Tom Cruise, 56, is famous for doing his own stunts. He looked to be a dab hand behind the control of the chopper as it rose into the air above Oxfordshire. It is just a practice run for him as shooting is due to take place next year. The crew is reportedly busy at work practicing several of the sequences for “Top Gun 2.” There are a lot of techniques Tom has to be aware of when flying his helicopter. It would not be wrong to say that extra precaution is being taken with the flight with "Top Gun 2." A few years ago, two pilots lost their lives on the set of Tom Cruise's "American Made." Their families sued the producer for wrongful deaths.

The inspiration for ‘Top Gun 2.'

The Daily Mail claims that the main inspiration for the movie is the article "Top Guns" by Ehud Yonay, published in California magazine in May 1983.

The report detailed the life of pilots at the Naval Air Station Miramar in San Diego.

Tom Cruise told a morning show host that the long-rumored movie would “head to the cameras in 2018.” The news came a few months after the "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" star met Jerry Bruckheimer on the set of “JackReacher: Never Go Back.” They discussed the plot and other details of “Top Gun 2” and finalized the deal in December 2016. In January 2017, Jerry Bruckheimer tweeted about the new film saying he had teamed up with Tom for the “Top Gun” sequel. Tom Cruise, on the other hand, has not commented on the sequel. However, he has been clicked by the paparazzi at work.

It was directed by Tony Scott and produced by Don Simpson, in association with Paramount Pictures. The film featured Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis, Anthony Edwards, and Tom Skerritt in the leading characters. In addition to its box office success, “Top Gun” went on to break further records in the then still-developing home video markets.
