Netflix may be bracing itself for its eventual removal of all its Disney streaming media, but so far it will continue to capitalize on its partnership with a major production arm of the House of Mouse: Marvel Entertainment. The online streaming giant’s deal with Marvel TV to develop a corner of the greater MCU with multiple series about street-level heroes has proven for the most part popular and successful. And before the month is out Netflix will be unleashing its answer to the “Avengers” films by putting together Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist in “The Defenders.” And just so you don’t forget, they even put up one final trailer for fans to enjoy.
Post-fight restaurant meal
It has already been established by the past Marvel Netflix solo-hero series that something rotten is festering on the streets of New York City, under the noses of the more super of heroes like the Avengers. “The Defenders” brings all these backstory developments to a head, serving as the backdrop for which a motley crew of vigilantes will team up. A blind lawyer with enhanced senses and ninja training, a super-strong and super emotionally-scarred private eye, a brawling bartender with unbreakable skin, and a long-lost corporate heir with a chi-empowered punch must get to the bottom of a conspiracy involving the Hand cult.

The last trailer sets the mood for what the individual heroes will be up against. It is framed with the four heroes in question: Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones) eating at a Chinese restaurant. A quick glance shows that they just got out of a messy battle, shown in snippets along the scene.
They are then interrupted by Matt’s old master Stick (Scott Glenn) who tells them about a battle for the fate of New York City.
Battle for New York
Past trailers and articles pertaining to “The Defenders” on Netflix seem to portray a two-front assault on New York and its resident street vigilantes. A public figure known only as Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver) is systematically destroying fixtures in the lives of Matt, Jess, Luke and Danny.
In the shadows however, Daredevil and Iron Fist’s common enemy the Hand is on the verge of a rampage. They are led by their dark messianic figure in the resurrected and now-evil Elektra Natchios (Elodie Yung), Matt’s old flame. Aided by their respective allies, the foursome must join as a team-but-not in order to save their home from doom.

Marvel’s “The Defenders” premieres on the Netflix platform this August 18. Another solo series starring Jon Bernthal as “The Punisher” will be next on the schedule, sometime later this year.
