Miley Cyrus could have been the host of the 2017 Teen Choice Awards, and she would have been awarded an honorary “surf board” plaque, according to The Daily Mail Online, but the star didn't even make an appearance.

2017 Teen Choice Awards

In the report, the 2017 Teen Choice Awards did not see a remarkable appearance from the “Wrecking Ball” artist who apparently left hours before the show. Daily Mail said that there was a clip of her on Twitter showing Cyrus doing a sound check just hours before the awarding event aired live.

She was replaced by Victoria Justice who stood as the new host and came out on stage to reveal that Cyrus was not gracing the show that night.

The singer would have been the recipient of the “UItimate Choice Award” for being a regular Teen Choice award recipient. Furthermore, she also got nominations for this year’s edition.

Aside from her, the report said there were other big celebrities who did not make it to the actual event but instead sent out video clips of them accepting the award. These include “Wonder Woman” Gal Gadot, Bruno Mars, Beyonce, Ariana Grande and Zac Efron.

Miley Cyrus explains

According to the Twitter post of the Teen Choice awards, Cyrus was even seen during the technical rehearsals just a few moments before the show officially started. The report showed a clip with the singer doing a sound check before Fox aired the event.

Shortly after, the “Wrecking Ball” singer posted on Instagram and explained why she left before the actual show. She stated she is “beyond bummed” that she could not make it, but intended to be there to accept her award. She also thanked the award-giving body for presenting her the special honor.

Her explanation was that she had an “unrealistic schedule” that she followed through with a promotion of her newest single.

After her explanation on social media, Cyrus said she is excited for her new music video “Younger Now.”

Winners

Setting this unexpected scenario aside, the 2017 awards went on with a bag full of surprises. From the pre-show, the red carpet arrivals to the winners that night, the show kept its reputation as one of the most anticipated awarding ceremonies on television.

Hit TV series “Riverdale” won many of their nominations, including Choice Breakout TV Star, TVShip, Breakout TV Show, “Scene Stealer,” Drama TV Show, Drama TV Actor and more.

“Wonder Woman” and “Beauty and the Beast” also won huge. The 2017 Teen Choice Awards was aired Sunday on Fox from Southern California.
