Criminal Minds is already gearing up for Season 13 and some classic characters are set to return to the show once it kicks off in the fall. Daniel Henney is not new to the show as he also starred in the show’s spin-off “CM: Beyond Borders.” He is set to replace Damon Gupton, who played as Agent Stephen Walker, who also replaced show veteran Thomas Gibson as Aaron “Hotch” Hotchner.

Recently, showrunner Erica Messer confirmed that there is a familiar character coming back to the show. This prompted many fans to believe that the show is possibly close to bringing Gibson back.

Another old character is coming

TV Guide recently caught up with “Criminal Minds” showrunner Erica Messer about the familiar character that is set to make a comeback to the show.

She said that it would be interesting to bring back Jamie Kennedy, who played as Floyd Feylinn, a cannibal who was featured in the episode “Lucky.” The episode was aired some years ago, and although he is not too nice to see again, the showrunner said that they decided to write a follow-up on that episode to dig deeper into the case. “We went back and looked at that episode and studied exactly what was he charged with, do we want to say he stood trial or was he not mentally able to stand trial?” Messer said. “We got to write the sequel to ‘Lucky’ in a lot of ways.”

A chance to know more about Penelope

This episode in “Criminal Minds” will also give fans to go deeper on Kirsten Vangsness’ Penelope Garcia.

It can be recalled when she was shot but fortunately survived in the tragic incident, which will be the best time to know how she is recovering all these years. Fans would love to know her better apart from the dangers that Floyd Feylinn might bring to the BAU. The idea of bringing an old character, fans can’t help but wonder whether Thomas Gibson gets the chance to return to the show.

Will Gibson return?

Thomas Gibson was fired from “Criminal Minds” following an altercation with one of the writers, who also departed the show recently. Most of his loyal fans stopped watching the show since he was terminated in August 2016 and started the #NoHotchNoWatch feast on Twitter. Now that an old character is set to return, fans are hoping that the show will be closed to signing Gibson again in the show.

He was certainly one of the biggest foundations in the show, and his return will make an impact on the ratings that have declined by 17 percent since he left.

“Criminal Minds” returns for Season 13 on September 27 at 10 PM EST on CBS. Blasting News will provide more updates about the show soon. Stay tuned!
