The trailer for Disney’s “A Wrinkle In Time” debuted last Saturday at D23. The first footage of the 1963 classic book adaptation showcases one of the most diverse castings by Disney.

Disney did the honors during the D23 last Saturday when the studio released the very first movie trailer of one of the highly anticipated movies of 2018. The movie aims to please long-time fans of the 1963 classic science fantasy novel written by American writer Madeleine L'Engle.

Movie plot

Disney's “A Wrinkle in Time” follows three children, Meg (played by Storm Reid), Charles, and Calvin, who go on an adventure of epic proportions in order to find their missing father and in the process rescue him.

Meg was initially visited by three mysterious women who are a witch, an alien, and a scientist.

Their father, played by “Wonder Woman” actor Chris Pine, is a brilliant scientist who discovered how to use the tesseract to “fold time.”In other words, if this fifth dimension is added to the other four dimensions, it allows an individual to travel through space without having to go the long way around. Because of his discovery, he caught the attention of some wickedly despicable forces.

Diverse casting and highly acclaimed director

Ava DuVernay, the talented visionary behind “Selma” and “13th,” is the first African-American woman to ever direct an ambitious project that is worth over $100 million.

And by the looks of the recently released trailer, it seems DuVernay’s vision of bringing the classic book to life is channeled on screen, resonating with people’s expectations and hopes for the movie.

The codirector and writer of Disney’s “Frozen” penned the script for Madeleine L’Engle’s classic novel. The film is brought to life by one of the most diverse castings ever to appear on Disney.

Young actress Storm Reid plays the movie’s main character, Meg Murry. Reid is best known for her performance in “12 Years a Slave.” As mentioned earlier, Chris Pine will play Meg’s father who was kidnapped by evil forces, while playing Meg’s mother is Gugu Mbatha-Raw (2013 “Belle” and 2016 “Free State of Jones”).

Joining Reid and Pine are Reese Witherspoon who will play as Mrs.

Whatsit, Mindy Kaling as Mrs. Who, and Oprah Winfrey as Mrs. Which—the three mysterious women who visited Meg and told her to find and rescue her father. “The Hangover” actor Zach Galifianakis, “Moonlight” actor André Holland and “Ant-Man” actor Michael Peña also join the cast.
