Sam Heughan may be one of the biggest stars on TV right now but he is not immune to angry fans. The actor left his supporters devastated after it was confirmed that he will be skipping this year's "Highlanders 2" event. To make up for the canceled appearance, Heughan, who plays Jamie in the hit show "Outlander," will be hosting a Twitter Q&A today. He is expected to answer fans' throbbing questions about the upcoming season of the Starz blockbuster.

Sam Heughan angers fans with "Highlanders 2" cancellation

Fans were so excited when it was confirmed that Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe would be attending the fan event at the Norbreck Castle Hotel, Blackpool.

The three-day gathering promised attendees panel discussions among the cast as well as photo and autograph sessions. Gold tickets to "Highlander 2" priced at £165 sold out when the announcement was made about the duo. Regular passes at £110 continued to sell as well.

However, on Thursday, organizers Starfury Conventions confirmed the disappointing news that the "Outlander" Season 3 star has canceled his appearance at the event. According to the tweet, the actor has "filming commitments" to tend to. This could possibly be his new movie with Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon, "The Spy Who Dumped Me."

Many were disappointed, to say the least.

Angry Sam Heughan fans took to social media to vent out their dismay for the cancellation, especially since some had already shelled out hundreds to purchase their tickets and make transportation arrangements to the event. Few even questioned whether the actor who plays Jamie in "Outlander" appreciates his UK fans. Some, however, were quick to defend the Irish hunk, saying filming his new movie was as important.

"Outlander" Season 3 Q&A with Sam Heughan

In a seeming bid to pacify his fans, Sam Heughan will be hosting a live Question and Answer session on Twitter today. Set for 12 noon UK time, the actor will be answering fans budding and steaming queries about "Outlander" Season 3, his co-star Caitriona Balfe and even some personal Qs.

The session will probably happen while the actor is on the road, as Heughan confirmed he'll be entertaining questions on his way to the San Diego Comic Con 2017 in California.

Fans were, of course, quick to welcome the simple gesture. Many had set alarms at wee hours of the morning just to make sure they won't miss seeing the actor on the hot seat. Sam Heughan's Twitter Q&A seems to be especially geared towards his UK fans for the canceled guesting given the schedule of his online event -- following UK time instead of US time.

Heughan and Balfe are returning on TV screens in September for "Outlander" Season 3. The new episodes promise more riveting drama and romance as it is set 20 years after season 2.
