No doubt, “Wonder Woman” is one of the biggest blockbusters this summer. The Gal Gadot movie crushed “The Mummy” at the United States and Canadian box office.

“Wonder Woman,” featuring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Danny Huston, Emily Carey, Robin Wright and Connie Nielsen, claims the top domestic and international gross for its second weekend. With the release of “Mummy” film on June 9, 2017, everyone expected that this movie would beat out “Wonder Woman,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2” at the box office.

Unfortunately, the Tom Cruise movie has not impressed the audiences. In fact, it is receiving negative comments from critics, with some of them calling it the worst movie of the year and others are criticizing the cinematography and story of the film.

Warner Bros. dominates the box office

Since the release of “Wonder Woman,” Warner Bros. is in the headlines. Previously, Disney made the news with the smashing success of “Beauty and the Beast.” Now it seems that the sequel of the two movies (“Wonder Woman 2,” “Beauty and the Beast 2”) will decide the fate of studios.

The DC Comics adaptation has grossed over $220 million at the North American box office.

The Mummy,” on the other hand, has managed to earn $70 million both in the United States and Canada. By no means, the monster movie can match the caliber of the superhero film.

Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins have opened the doors of Hollywood for themselves, and we are hoping to see them in the “Wonder Woman” sequel too. This film took no time to gross $201 million domestically, and it’s just the beginning. It's two weeks’ profit is around $400 million, which makes us think that “Wonder Woman” will get a lot more sequels in coming months.

The monster movie

The Mummy” was intended to launch a “Dark Universe” film franchise in a whole new style. Unluckily, this movie could not win the hearts of global audiences.

It means Universal may cancel its plans to develop a new movie with Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "The Mummy" has grossed $140 million in 60 countries, including $52 million in China, $40 million in Japan. It may be the biggest worldwide opening for Tom Cruise, but still “The Mummy” has not touched the mark of “Wonder Woman” and “Beauty and the Beast” like films. It is expected that the monster movie will gross around $700 million during its theoretical run.
