Kim Kardashian has expanded her brand from being a full-time reality star to having her very own makeup line, KKW Beauty. Unlike her youngest sister Kylie Jenner, Mrs. West is already facing backlash even before people get the chance to use her products. The “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star is facing blackface accusations (darkening her skin in photos) and she is now responding to these allegations.
Kim Kardashian shared a photo on social media promoting her KKW Beauty Creme Contour and Highlight Kit on June 14. Her followers quickly noticed that the 36-year-old reality television personality, actress, and businesswoman looked a lot darker in her promo ad than her natural skin color.
Kim Kardashian-West addresses blackface controversy
While the social media queen is not apologizing for it, she is owning up to the incident and explaining why she looked the way she did.
“I would obviously never want to offend anyone. I used an amazing photographer and a team of people,” Mrs. West told the New York Times. “I was really tan when we shot the images, and it might be that the contrast was off.” Kim Kardashian then went on to say that she showed the photo to a lot of people, and none of them reacted negatively toward it.
Although the “KUWTK” star noted that she was “really tan” during the photoshoot, she did admit that there was a problem, so she and her team “made the necessary changes.” The KKW Beauty official Twitter account then posted the same photo the next day, but this time with Kim Kardashian looking a lot lighter than the previous image.
Kim not ready to give up her throne to sister Kylie?
Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian is not the only one who has a makeup line in the Kardashian/Jenner clan. Kylie Jenner found instant success after launching her very lucrative Kylie Cosmetics back in 2015. The 19-year-old reality television personality and model may be the youngest in the family, but she is slowly taking the top spot from Mrs.
Kardashian-West, and the older sibling may not be too happy about it.
“Deep down Kim is very competitive with all of her sisters, despite frequently helping them with their business ventures,” a source told HollywoodLife. “But, the makeup line was Kylie’s thing, and she’s really excelled at it.” The insider then shared that even though the mother of two loves her siblings a lot, she wants to be known as the most successful of the Kardashian/Jenner clan.
