It took “Beauty and the Beast” only ten weeks to cross the $500 million milestones at the domestic box office. The live-action remake of Disney’s 1991 movie successfully reached the mark of half a billion at the Domestic Box Office after Sunday earnings were totaled. Thus, it has become one of the highest-grossing movies of all-time. “Beauty and the Beast” has been a box-office darling as the film went on to a $167 million opening weekend, and earned more than $400 million at the global box office in just two weeks.
Live-action films in the works
After the smashing success of “Beauty and the Beast,” Disney is now developing “Beauty and the Beast 2” and other live-action films. The Hollywood Reporter reports that the Bill Condon-directed movie has topped all lists this year. “Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2,” on the other hand, secured second place, and grossed up to $600 million globally.
“Beauty and the Beast” features an ensemble cast led by Emma Watson and Dan Stevens. The incredible supporting cast includes Kevin Kline, Luke Evans, Audra McDonald, Stanley Tucci, Guru Mbatha-Raw, Emma Thompson, Ian McKellen, and Josh Gad.
Josh Gad was in the headlines for being the first gay in a mega-budget Disney film.
If you have seen the non-animated version of “Beauty and the Beast,” you must be familiar with the fact that Disney included a lot of visual effects in its new film. The studio currently has a lineup of remakes, such as “Snow White,” “Lion King,” and “Mulan.” It is very likely that all of these films will do excellent business domestically and internationally, and continue that trend.
The other films that broke the $500 million mark at the domestic box office include “Titanic,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Avatar,” “Jurassic World,” “Marvel’s The Avengers,” “The Dark Knight,” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
‘Beauty and the Beast’ – the most successful film of the year?
No doubt, “Beauty and the Beast” is one of the most successful and highest-grossing films of 2017.
It took no time to break the records of the 1991 fairytale. With the Memorial Day weekend box office included, Disney’s live-action film has successfully made over $510 million at the domestic box office.
Box Office Mojo reveals that “Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2” is in the number two spot in terms of box office performance. So far, this film has made $320 million at the domestic box office and is likely to cross the $500 million mark in the coming weeks. Internationally, “Beauty and the Beast” has grossed over $1.12 billion.
