Jim Parsons, who portrays the character of Sheldon Cooper in the well-loved comedy series “The Big Bang Theory” recently tied the knot with beau Todd Spiewak. Parsons and Spiewak, a graphic designer by profession, got hitched on Saturday, May 13 at New York’s Rainbow Room restaurant, which is situated on top of the landmark 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
The 44-year old actor’s rep confirmed that the marriage had taken place. However, he did not provide any details regarding the ceremony.
Jim Parsons and Todd Spiewak finally take the plunge
“The Big Bang Theory” star and Spiewak were dating for 14 years before tying the knot.
Parsons’ sexual orientation was revealed in 2012 in an article from the New York Times, where the actor was said to be “gay and in a 10-year relationship.” Parsons also acknowledged Spiewak publicly for the first time during his acceptance speech during the 2013 Emmy Awards.
Later, the actor said he had never considered coming out publicly. He revealed that he took Spiewak to parties and events, but never told anyone that he was gay. However, in an interview with the New York Times, when asked point-blank about his sexual orientation, Parsons chose not to deny his orientation and revealed the truth to the publication.
On November 2016, to commemorate the 14th anniversary of their relationship, Parsons posted a throwback image showing the two during a karaoke session.
He captioned the image exclaiming that Todd was the best thing that happened to him in his life.
Jim also joked that the greatest gift that he had given him in the past 14 years was that he had stopped insisting that he sing karaoke. In an interview, Parsons claimed that he had met Spiewak on a blind date back in 2002 at a karaoke bar and he even recalled the first song he had hummed back then.
Jim's thoughts on marriage
After living together for over a decade, Jim was asked about his thoughts on marriage by Ellen DeGeneres on her show in 2014. At that juncture, he tried to evade the question by saying that he was used to living as it was. He also added that despite Spiewak’s interest for tying the knot, he did not feel enthusiastic enough about the prospect of settling down.
Coincidentally, the latest season of “The Big Bang Theory” ended with Sheldon going down on one knee to propose marriage to Amy Farrah Fowler, played by Mayim Bialik. The popular show has also been renewed for another couple of seasons.
