It would not be wrong to say that television is the strongest selling point for Netflix, but the original movies are also gaining popularity. Previously, the streaming giant developed several science documentaries and won the hearts of global audiences. Now, it’s time to look forward to its original films. A Netflix spokesperson has confirmed that at least three original movies will premiere this year. These include “War Machine,” “To the Bone,” and “A Futile and Stupid Gesture.”

‘War Machine’

“War Machine” is one of the most anticipated movies of the year.

It is directed and co-produced by David Michôd, based on a book of the same name by Michael Hastings. The cast includes Brad Pitt, Topher Grace, Anthony Michael, Will Poulter, Jonathan Ing, Ben Kingsley, and Tilda Swinton. The film is scheduled to be released on Netflix on May 26, 2017.

The story revolves around a police officer, Glen (Brad Pitt), who travels to Afghanistan to bring the war to an end. But the task is not easy as he faces various problems. Once, the actor finds himself under a severe bombard attack. The film has been financed by RatPac Entertainment and New Regency.

‘Okja.'

“Okja” is an upcoming South American film by Bong Joon-ho, and scripted by Jon Ronson. The cast includes Ahn Seo-hyun, Jake Gyllenhaal, Tilda Swinton, Paul Dano, Lily Collins, Steven Yeun, Shirley Henderson, Devon Bostick, and Byun Hee-bong.

The movie is selected to compete for a prize at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, and will theoretically release on June 28, 2017, by Netflix. The film focuses on a young girl, Minja, who risks her life to prevent a famous company from kidnapping her mate, Okja.

It is a joint project of Plan B Entertainment and Netflix and developed with an estimated budget of $52 million.

Filming is done in British Columbia and Canada, with Darius Khondji serving as cinematographer.

‘To the Bone’

“To the Bone” is an American movie directed and written by Marti Noxon. It features Lily Collins, Carrie Preston, Keanu Reeves, Lili Taylor, Liana Liberato, Alex Sharp, Ciara Bravo, and Brooke Smith. The story revolves around a young girl, Collins, who battles anorexia. She loses hope for life and attempts suicide multiple times.

The movie premiered at 2017 Sundance Film Festival and will be theoretically released this July.

Production began in March 2016 when the director confirmed Lily Collins for the leading character. The entire film has been shot in Los Angeles and London.
