"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is set for release this December, keeping up the current trend of a film a year. The latest rumor is that we will see a trailer in the next few days for the second installment in the new trilogy, but, in the meantime we have been provided with more information about a character new to the franchise, and one that has some mystery surrounding her.

Admiral Holdo

Dern's involvement in the franchise was announced last year, but "Making Star Wars" recently broke more details about her role in "The Last Jedi." Her character will be called Admiral Holdo, and will be a prominent member of the Resistance.

It was mentioned that her character does not dress like we would expect of a general in the "Star Wars" universe.

"Admiral Holdo wears a long mauve regal gown with a short cape that hangs down in back with a concealed laser pistol. She’s kind of the antithesis of Leia’s new general look." ("Making Star Wars").

Good or evil?

As has been rumored for a long time now, Laura Dern's character is set to be a hindrance to Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) during "The Last Jedi" and may even be a First Order spy of some kind. "Making Star Wars" posted on this topic as well, saying that Poe will be helping the Resistance fleet escape the might of the First Order, but General Holdo will stand in opposition to him in some way.

Of course, this all fits in with another potential spoiler and rumor about the film below.

General Leia injured?

Of course, if you have a power struggle over who should be leading the Resistance, it must mean that General Leia is in some way incapacitated. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" made it clear that Leia is the leader of the Resistance.

However, it has been rumored for some time now that we will see her get severely wounded in the opening scene of "The Last Jedi."

In fact it looks set to be at Han Solo's funeral where an assassin will make an attempt on her life, and she will somehow survive through use of the force. Leia has never openly used her force powers in the "Star Wars" franchise, but it has been made clear through her mental link with Luke and her parentage that she does have these abilities.

Her injury would leave the Resistance in a power struggle, giving a huge advantage to the First Order as they chase down the Resistance.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is set for release on December 15th, 2017. The first official trailer is rumored to drop on April 14th at the Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, so keep an eye out!
