“Tomb Raider” will now get a new face in the form of Swedish actress Alicia Vikander. This is a Warner Bros movie and, Alicia will don the mantle of Lara Croft which had, since 2001, been the domain of Angelina Jolie.
Alicia Vikander is an Oscar-winner and, appears to be confident of taking over. She is seen wearing cargo pants, a khaki vest and a daredevil attitude which have been the trademarks of Lara Croft ever since the character was introduced to the world through video games way back in 1996.
Sky News reports that Angelina Jolie had first brought the character to the big screen in 2001 in the movie “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and, subsequently, “The Cradle Of Life.” Incidentally, none of these movies got positive reviews but, this time around, with director Roar Uthaug, in the seat, the franchise is hopeful of better results.

Alicia Vikander won the Oscar best-supporting actress for her portrayal of Danish painter Gerda Wegener in Tom Hooper's “The Danish Girl.” She has appeared in period dramas that involve dress style suitable to the bygone era. However, she seems to be equally comfortable when she carries a mountain ax and is covered in dust and dirt. She wants to live the role of Lara Croft and does not mind wielding a bow and arrow.
In the opinion of director Roar Uthaug, the new face of Alicia in “Tomb Raider” would be a decisive factor because she will be able to impart greater depth to a complex role that will test her abilities to the fullest.

“Tomb Raider” is the story of Lara Croft in search of her father who had gone missing seven years ago off the coast of Japan.
Lara embarks on a journey that will test her to the limits and allow her to hone her skills. These will be the qualities that will stand her in good stead to help her in future. The movie is scheduled for release in 2018.
Alicia Vikander had shown courage when she accepted a role that demands plenty of nerve. She has to get into the shoes of an accomplished actress like Angelina Jolie and prove herself. Let us hope that she lives up to the expectations of her fans.
