The report by senior Oxfordshire coroner, Darren Salter, states singer george michael died from a Dilated Cardiomyopathy, along with myocarditis and fatty liver. His death was ruled as being by natural causes.

Reportedly dilated cardiomyopathy is a heart disease, caused by the left ventricle stretching and failing to effectively pump blood. According to the Mayo Clinic, as the muscle gets weaker, heart failure often occurs. Myocarditis is reportedly an inflammation of the heart, which is commonly caused by a viral infection. The cause of fatty liver disease is a buildup of fat in the organ, usually caused by alcoholism, but the Mayo Clinic says it can occur due to diabetes and obesity.

Reportedly the Thames Valley Police said on Facebook they have closed their investigation into Michael’s death, stating that the cause of death was natural and no further action is needed. Police added that no further updates will be made available and asked the public and media to respect the family’s privacy.

Initial autopsy was 'inconclusive'

According to People, when the first autopsy was completed on December 30, the coroner’s department revealed the results to be “inconclusive,” saying further tests would be required and that this might take several weeks. However, at the time, police stated that the cause of Michael’s was unexplained, but in no way suspicious. This was despite a claim by Andros Georgiou, a childhood friend of Michael that the singer had been using hard drugs in the past.

George Michael’s former partner said they want closure

As reported by the BBC, Michael’s former partner, Kenny Goss, said at the weekend that the singer’s body had just given up and that after all these years, it was weak.

Reportedly Michael had suffered from several health issues in recent years, including being hospitalized for pneumonia in November 2011. Goss said they now want closure and they want the funeral to go ahead.

Fadi Fawaz, Michael’s partner, reportedly headed to Twitter once he heard the news, sharing an image of the couple smiling and captioning it with the words “The Truth is out.”

During his almost 40 years of performing, Michael sold around 100 million albums worldwide and won many awards.

The singer’s representative said George Michael passed away peacefully at home on Christmas Day at the age of 53. Initially Michael’s U.S. publicist said the “Careless Whispers” singer had died of heart failure.
