As the moment approaches, it is time to know all the five nominees for the Best Actress in a Leading Role award at the 89th Academy Awards ceremony, even if one of them will not be attending the great show.

Isabelle Huppert

The first nomination for Huppert, this is a well-earned recognition for her part in the movie “Elle,” as Michèle, the businessperson who was raped and sought out her assailant herself instead of going to the police. The movie is great, and Huppert really steals every scene she is in and deserves every recognition for her beautiful work.

Ruth Negga

Being her first nomination, Negga played Mildred in the movie “Loving,” a woman who suffers a lot of distress because of her interracial marriage in bygone times in the US.

Natalie Portman

Acclaimed as the first millennial to win an Oscar statuette, Portman is already a very successful actress but will not attend the Oscars’ ceremony this year, because of her advanced pregnancy. She was nominated for her part as Jackie Kennedy in the movie “Jackie”, a character trying to honor her late husband’s legacy after his shocking assassination. This is her third nomination, and she won her statuette in 2010’s “Black Swan”.

Emma Stone

Sharing the screen with Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone stars in the big hit “La La Land“ as Mia, a young woman trying to rise as an actress in Los Angeles while keeping her romance alive.

This is Stone’s second nomination and, considering the movie’s strength, she will most likely win the Oscar statuette in this edition of the Academy Awards.

Meryl Streep

Esteemed actress immortalized by significant roles such as Sophie in “Sophie’s Choice” (1982) and Margaret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady” (2011), Streep has accomplished so much in her career that it would be unfair to compare any actress with her.

Even so, her light might be outshined in this year’s Academy Awards by Emma Stone, considering how “La La Land” caused such a deep impact.

This time, Streep was nominated for her part as “Florence Foster Jenkins” in the movie entitled with her character’s name, marking her 20th nomination for an Academy Award.

Final words on the Best Actress in a Leading Role nominees

Five distinguished actresses are on the run this year, two of them are already Academy Awards winners, and another one was already nominated. This will be a close call, considering the roles they played and how great all of them were at it.
