The CW network has announced a number of renewals for the 2017-2018 season. Earlier than expected, the channel has picked up 7 of its shows that are currently on the air.
What got picked up?
It was announced that the popular drama, "Supernatural," has been renewed for another season. This is a historic move. The renewal means that "Supernatural" will return for a 13th season. This makes it the longest running show in CW history. The show began airing on the network in 2005, back when it was The WB network. Other shows that were picked up include all the network's superhero shows: "Arrow," "The Flash," "DC's Legends of Tomorrow," and "Supergirl." This means that "Arrow" will return for a sixth season, "The Flash" will return for a fourth season, and both "Legends of Tomorrow" and "Supergirl" will return for a third season.
Also picked up are two of the network's scripted comedies: "Jane the Virgin" and "Crazy Ex Girlfriend." "Jane the Virgin" was picked up for a fourth season, while "Crazy Ex Girlfriend" was picked up for a third season.
The shows that remain
If your favorite show isn't listed above, don't freak out just yet. These are the first shows that The CW has renewed, but not necessarily the last. What that means is that the remaining shows on the network aren't cancelled. Their fate hasn't been decided yet. Still up in the air are the shows reality series. Also up in the air are the network's midseason shows. This includes popular shows "iZombie," "The Originals," and "The 100." All of these shows have yet to premiere their newest seasons.
They will be returning to The CW in the upcoming months, along with the newest show, "Riverdale." Not returning are the channel's newest shows "No Tomorrow" and "Frequency," which will not return for more episodes. Also not returning is "Reign," which will come to an end after its current fourth season. The popular drama "The Vampire Diaries" will also not return, as it will air its series finale this year. News of renewal or cancellation of the CW's remaining shows will be announced in the upcoming months.
