Scarlett Johansson is quite the interesting actress. She’s one of those who transition very nicely from child roles to adult and score majorly with critics and the box office in doing so. Looking at her development from the traumatized teen equestrienne in “The Horse Whisperer” to the butt-kicking super-spy superhero Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and pretty soon as the hot cyborg operative in the upcoming live-action adaptation of the manga and anime “Ghost in the Shell”, Johansson’s movie career seems on the up and up. The thing is, her personal life might not be; as news has come up indicating that the now 32-year-old star and her French advertising executive husband Romain Dauriac are on the outs.
Small signs
Rumors regarding the separation of Johansson and Dauriac became rampant during the days of the Women’s March in the wake of the inauguration of President Donald Trump. Johansson was present and among the celebrities who spoke out during the nationwide, perhaps global, event. Sharp-eyed observers noted that her wedding band was missing from her finger, although Johansson herself did not give any commentary on this development. It was something of an oddity however, as past documented appearances of the couple together have been very warm and fuzzy, such as the opening of a new popcorn shop under their joint ownership in Paris just this past December, and even as recently as last month where, during a press event for the “Ghost in the Shell” film, Johansson mentioned to reporters her hubby’s keen interest in the storyline of the movie and its production, having praised its set design and aesthetics.
But as to more recent details on the split, no parties have made themselves available.
Strike two?
Johansson has had quite the love life in the past, with a goodly number of relationships and a previous marriage to actor Ryan Reynolds aka “Deadpool”, from whom she divorced in 2010. She first met Dauriac in 2012, and they dated until their engagement in 2013.
In 2014, after the birth of their daughter Rose Dorothy, Johansson and Dauriac married at a ranch in Philipsburg, Montana. The actress has mentioned their child in interviews, and their relationship is close, bonding through music and song as befitting the mother's singing and stage career. Nobody knows what will happen post-breakup.
Next action girl role
While Johansson’s return to the Marvel movies is up in the air with no casting announcements, she’ll still be in her current element for “Ghost in the Shell”, directed by Rupert Sanders. She plays a cyborg counter-terrorist operative called The Major, although some accusations of whitewashing have been leveled at the film due to the name used by the Major, Motoko Kusanagi, implying the character to be Japanese. There was little controversy on the casting in Japan where the original manga and anime originated, and having a Caucasian fill the role was actually expected.
