It's the awards show where the fans get to pick who the winner will be. The "People's Choice Awards" for 2017 took place on January 18 at 9 p.m. ET. Hosted by comedian Joel McHale, the ceremony aired live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

43 years strong

This year marks the 43rd year for the "People's Choice Awards." It is the first time that Joel McHale is acting as host for this awards show, but he has a number of hosting duties under his belt. McHale was the long-time host of the popular E! Series, "The Soup." He also hosted the ESPY Awards in 2015 and the Independent Spirit Awards in 2011.

And the winner is...

The first award of the night was for Favorite TV Crime Drama Actress. Jenifer Lopez was the recipient of that one for her role as Harlee Santos on "Shades of Blue." The next award went to Kevin Hart for Favorite Comedic Movie Actor, and Melissa McCarthy won for Comedic Movie Actress.

Blake Lively won for Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress thanks to her performance in "The Shallows." The award for Favorite Dramatic Movie Actor went to Tom Hanks for "Sully, " and Dramatic TV Actress went to Priyanka Chopra. Robert Downey Jr took home his sixth People's Choice Award, this time for Favorite Action Movie Actor.

The new hit series "This is Us" won the People's Choice Award for New TV Drama, and Johnny Depp was awarded as the Favorite Movie Icon.

Sofia Vergara beat out some other funny women for the honors of Comedic TV Actress and "The Big Bang Theory" won for Favortie Network TV Comedy.

"Finding Dory" won Favorite Movie and Family Movie. Ellen DeGeneres was the big winner of the night with three wins. She won for Daytime TV Host, Favorite Comedic Collaboration and Favorite Animated Movie Voice.

Music and more

On the music side of things, Justin Timberlake took home two awards for Favorite Male Artist and Favorite Song for "Can't Stop the Feeling." Blake Shelton was also the winner of two awards, one for Favorite Album and another for Male Country Artist. Fifth Harmony won for Favorite Group.

Other winners of the night included "Fuller House" for Favorite Premium Comedy Series and Dwayne Johnson for Premium Series Actor. Sarah Jessica Parker won for Premium Series Actress.
