Luke Cage release date

With the 'Luke Cage' release date (September 30th) fast approaching, viewers are eagerly awaiting the next installment in the Marvel/Netflix partnership that already features the likes of "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones." In the latest addition to that growing narrative that also features iconic characters like The Punisher, actor Mike Colter will reprise his role as the man with the unbreakable skin -- Luke Cage.

Picking up where 'Jessica Jones' left off

One thing that Marvel has done well with in their partnership with Netflix is establishing continuity between their properties.

Much in the same way that DC and the CW manage to do with their Arrowverse, the Netflix shows like "Daredevil," Jessica Jones," and now, "Luke Cage" have threads that connect each of these street level heroes in all of their intertwining and intersecting glory. This leaves the door open for crossover opportunities between these street level heroes, as well as characters like Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple, who, at one time or another has aided all three of these heroes and appeared in all three series. Last we saw, he and Jessica Jones were not on the best terms, and even though this series will definitely focus on Colter's character, look for their storylines to intersect.

Multiple villains in Netflix's 'Luke Cage'

Last we saw of Mike Colter in character, Luke Cage has been characterized thus far as something of a reluctant hero, someone who will fight only when necessary -- and certainly doesn't go looking for trouble. Some notable villains that viewers are likely to see include Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes, veteran actor Alfre Woodard in a currently unspecified role, and "Sons of Anarchy" alum Theo Rossitaking up the mantle of "Shades" Alvarez.

'Luke Cage' will have its own feel

Each of the Marvel/Netflix shows certainly have their own feel. Where "Daredevil" is dark and gritty, and "Jessica Jones" is a bit more spy/thriller/film noir, viewers can expect this to have its own unique pulse as well. The atmosphere and tone of the series has been described as urban, and soulful.

According to Looper, actor Mike Colter has said that it's going to be "action-packed" from beginning to end.

The first season of the series will be available to binge in its entirety on September 30th, only on Netflix.
