Actress Sarah Jessica Parker, most famously known for her role as Carrie in Sex and the City is now going to be starring in a new HBO series called Divorce. The new comedy series is quite unlike Sexy and the City as it will center on a breakup, rather than finding love, as she did in SITC (Sex in the City). Nevertheless it will still have a similar feel in that it will be a romantic comedy.
Sarah Jessica Parker plays married lady ‘Frances’
Sarah Jessica Parker will star as a middle-aged woman called Frances who wants to divorce her husband, an idea encouraged by her two best friends.
The teaser for the series has been released and we learn from the trailer that the reason for the divorce is because Parker’s character accuses her husband of having an affair…until we learn that he has not physically cheated on her. It seems as though the beginning of the series will comically debate whether an affair only counts when it is physical, as Sarah Jessica Parker’s on screen husband has apparently just had an emotional affair, which he argues is not valid as an ‘affair’. Her character’s husband Robert will be played by actor Thomas Haden Church.
Sarah Jessica Parker in another romantic comedy
The series trailer gives us a taste of the mixture between romance and comedy, the first clip of the teaser sees Sarah Jessica Parker’s character asking her husband for a divorce only to be asked “Are you drunk?” by her husband.
It then shows us another clip of her on screen husband rejecting her character Frances from the elevator he is in because he ‘needs space’, after which she sticks her middle finger up at the elevator.
The famous actress is going to be the show’s executive producer on top of being the protagonist of the show, written by Sharon Horgan.
Parker reveals “It was an area of particular interest for me because I’m married, and I love being married, and I’m happily married’.
Sarah Jessica Parker shares sneak peek on her Instagram
The Carrie Bradshaw actress debuted a sneak peak of the new series on her Instagram account, she captioned “A long time coming. A great thrill that my friends @hbo allowed me to share with you the official FIRST look and just a wee appetiser of #DivorceonHBO”.
The nice thing for Parker is that the show is going to be aired by the same channel that screened the previous series she worked on, Sex and the City was aired on HBO.
