WWE’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view will take place this Sunday. According to ESPN, 14 out of 18 winners of the men's Money in the Bank match have successfully cashed in their briefcase. By winning the briefcase in a match where one has to climb a ladder to retrieve it, that person will have one year to cash-in any time for a world title match.
This Sunday, eight WWE male superstars will compete in a Money in the Bank match. Eight women will also compete in a separate Money in the Bank match. The male competitors are Braun Strowman, Rusev, The Miz, Samoa Joe, Bobby Roode, Finn Balor, Kevin Owens, and one of the three members of New Day.
According to CBS Sports, the event will take place at 7 PM ET with the preshow kicking off an hour before. Here are the eight men’s competitors grouped by their chances of winning.
Very unlikely Money in the Bank winners
- 8. Bobby Roode
Roode was recently involved in a feud with Elias, one that saw Elias get the upper hand more often than not.
- 7. Kevin Owens
Owens' recent win-loss record hasn’t been all that good. It took some badgering of Monday Night RAW commissioner Stephanie McMahon to get another shot to qualify, and he capitalized with help from Sami Zayn.
Could happen, probably won’t win Money in the Bank
- 6. One of the members of New Day
A tag team that has grown stale to many, one of the members of New Day will take part in the men’s Money in the Bank match.
None of them have been involved as a regular singles competitor in quite some time, according to ESPN, but rumors have floated that Big E is set for a big push which leaves the door open for a possible surprise win.
- 5. Finn Balor
Balor will most likely have the most high-flying, risk-taking moments in the match (could be matched by Kofi Kingston if he is the New Day member who will take part).
- 4. Rusev
Rusev has received some of the largest pops over the past few months as WWE fans have celebrated “Rusev Day” every week. Unfortunately, WWE hasn’t fully taken advantage of this as they haven’t allowed him to garner any type of consistent momentum in his matches.
The three most-likely Money in the Bank winners
- 3. Samoa Joe
Samoa Joe has yet to hold a title since joining the WWE roster, and that seems long overdue.
He had one opportunity at the Universal Championship when he challenged Brock Lesnar at “Great Balls of Fire” in 2017, as was reported at the time by TalkSport.
- 2. Braun Strowman
Easily the largest figure in this year’s field, Strowman has been touted by Monday Night RAW announcer Michael Cole as the favorite to win for weeks now. There is a good chance though, that the other seven competitors gang up on him at some point which could allow someone else to climb the ladder and secure the briefcase.
- 1. The Miz
That someone has a very strong possibility of being The Miz. One can picture the excellent promos and quality “Miz TV” segments that will occur if he’s holding the briefcase. He has been one of the most entertaining members of the roster week in and week out, and he deserves another world title run since he hasn’t had one since 2010-11.
