From the moment I inserted the original "Destiny" into my PS4, I was hooked. I've played so many hours I'm embarrassed to say how much time I have actually invested. I played and completed every raid, mission, quest and collected every exotic. It's safe to say I love this franchise, so like many others who share the same feelings about this game I was ecstatic about the sequel.
Once it was available I preordered "Destiny 2" with the expansion pass and I began the countdown to its September 6, 2017, release date. At its midnight release, I logged on and begun the much-awaited "Destiny 2" campaign.
I couldn't wait to see what adventures this game would take this community on. After starting the campaign it didn't take long to complete and it had a very anti-climactic ending. This was my first disappointment in a long line of many.
What went wrong?
After completing the campaign, the raid was not out yet so I started to try out the strike playlist to raise my power level and hopefully get some good dear. Much to my disappointment, the strikes were long, lackluster and unrewarding. One of the best things about playing the strikes in "Destiny" was the strike specific loot. As I'm sure many of you have, I spent hours grinding Omnigul to get a God roll Grasp of Malok.
Unfortunately, the strikes in "Destiny 2" provide no such loot, nothing specifically to grind for in any strike.
This was one of the key features of strikes and reasons why I kept playing. Outside of the strike playlist, I enjoy playing PVP in the Crucible so, of course, I was chomping at the bit to get in and play. The "Destiny 2" Crucible was vastly different than what I was used to. I attempted to have fun with the team shot play style, long time to kill and the 3-5 guns that are competitive but it got boring very quickly.
Will It Be Fixed?
The outlook for the franchise relies on upcoming updates :
- March 27, 2018, Sandbox and Crucible
- May 2018 Start of season 3 and Eververse fixes
- May 2018 2nd DLC release
- Spring 2018 Private matches and ranked PVP
- September 2018 Major expansion
So we will soon be getting a well-needed update to the PVP sandbox that many are dying to see if it is good.
I personally can't wait to see what that will be like. I look forward to finding a new meta, seeing what everyone else is having a good time playing with and trying the brand new setups.
I will enjoy grinding the Heroic Strike playlist given they give us something to work towards. Overall I am hopeful this franchise will return to glory but unfortunately, I think it may take waiting until the September 2018 major expansion release to get to get to that point.
