According to the song "Always look on the Bright Side of life," which appears in an acclaimed film, "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," some things in life are bad. "They can really make you mad. Other things just make you swear and curse. When you're chewing on life's gristle, don't grumble, give a whistle... [and] always look on the bright side of life."
Things will turn out alright, I promise you that
This song is sung while the main characters are seen hanging on a stake awaiting their death and is one of the most powerful songs I have ever heard.
I want to provide you with a few helpful ways to choose happiness on a daily basis. These tips are absolutely free and require you only to choose to search for silver linings even on the darkest of days because I promise you they are always there regardless how your day might be going.
My No. 1 way in which you can choose happiness each day is to simply look for one good thing that happened during the day. I know you might be thinking "Wow, Irina. I had a really horrible experience at work today and ended up losing my job. What good can come from this." Where some see a road which has come to an end, I choose to see growth and room for opportunity. Things don't always have to be going 100 percent perfect, in order for you to find the goodness of each day.
Well, what happens when things really aren't going my way?
Take a minute, and remember that you are alive and breathing and have been given this life to live it to the fullest. I understand that there are some days that just are really rough, but I truly believe that if you train yourself to pause for a moment and look for goodness, growth, and opportunity that you will find yourself smiling more often.
At the beginning of the year, I took an empty jar and made a resolution to write down a few things each night that went really well during my day and drop it in the jar. In doing so, I am training myself, even more, to focus on the good, the now, and the present.
I've had some really miserable days, but that doesn't stop me from finding the goodness of each day.
Trust me, it is there. Your job is to search for it. Because I promise, there is so much good that we encounter each day and that comes our way. If we just take the time to stop and smell the roses, I feel we will truly be able to flourish in a much more proactive and productive way. At the end of the day, happiness isn't a destination, rather it is a journey. It is one we are all on the road to and our choices every day can impact the way we view not only ourselves, but others in addition to the world, and that, to me, is remarkable.
