Liverpool still holds the record as the club with the highest Champions League titles but, the fame is quickly fading with the emergence of English giants. The Reds are second after Manchester United when it comes to domestic glories, but it remains that Liverpool has never won the Premier League since its inception in 1992. In the past two and a half decades, Liverpool has had eight managers and only two of them have stayed for expansive periods.
The struggles of Liverpool persists
Jurgen Klopp's side has begun to struggle even before playing a quarter of the season's fixtures. It's no longer easy to know the competition where Liverpool shows the characters of coming out on top. The Reds were dumped out of the League Cup by Leicester City after falling behind to a second-half brace from Islam Slimani at the King Power Stadium. Among the five teams from England that participate in the UEFA Champions League, it's only Liverpool that failed to win in their opening European fixture.
The struggle that Liverpool goes through currently can only be compared with what their Merseyside neighbors, Everton also face.
In fact, Everton is another English side that failed to record a win in their opening European assignment. After emphatic thumping Arsenal four goals without a reply, Liverpool have gone without a victory in four consecutive games in all competitions.
The worry at Liverpool squad is their porous defense that has conceded the same number of goals that the team has scored in the Premier League. The first to test the Reds' leaking shield was Watford in their 3-3 draw at the Vicarage Road Stadium in the opening league fixture. The Kops have only kept two clean sheets in this season in all competitions while also failing to score in two matches during the run.
Liverpool will be traveling back to Leicester City on Saturday's late kick-off fixture.
The game comes only four days after bowing out of the League Cup competition at the same venue despite dominating the game in first half. Liverpool had already tasted a victory over the Foxes in their Pre-season match earlier in the summer but the manager is in the prospect of receiving an exit warning should his side fall at the hands of the immediate former Premier League champions.
What happened with Brendan Rodgers?
Liverpool is hungry for the first Premier League crown after failing to lift it in the entire 25 years since the competition come into birth despite hiring eight colorful tacticians during that course. The Liverpool management has never shown patience with unsuccessful managers, something that has seen only Gerard Houllier and Rafael Benitez stay beyond six years at Anfield.
The immediate former Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers whose tenure only lasted for less than three years was at the glimpse of making history at Anfield had Steven Gerrard not slipped in their 2-0 defeat against Chelsea. Had Liverpool won the game, they would've secured their first Premiership glory with the North Irish at the helm of management.
Rodgers brought the attacking football that was full glamorous passes, but the finish solely revolved around Luis Suarez who never disappointed in his duty of hunting for goals. The trouble began after Suarez joined Barcelona and Liverpool hired the injury-prone duo of Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge. During the troubled spell, Liverpool lost to Aston Villa in the FA Cup before losing to Hull City in the Steven Gerrard farewell game.
The humiliating 6-1 defeat at Stoke City followed by a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park sealed the fate of the former Swansea manager.
I don't see Jurgen Klopp any special than Brendan Rodgers especially after seeing his side concede five goals without a response against Manchester City. If the German fails to win in his three upcoming fixture, his days at Liverpool will be numbered, and the axle can fall over him before other top managers.
