The Great American Eclipse was an amazing spectacle witnessed by millions in all US. The August 21 eclipse was the first since 1979 and many conspiracy theorists, scientists, and prophets of doom came out with their own prophecies. Some fundamentalist Christians believe that the eclipse serves as a warning to mankind of the anticipated second coming of Christ, the rapture, and the end of the World.
The American eclipse seen as a sign of the second coming of Christ
The recent eclipse dubbed as The “Great American Total Solar Eclipse” is said to be a warning sign from God because it allegedly fulfills a Bible prophecy as reported by Express.
This was affirmed by “Coming Apocalypse” radio show host Pastor Paul Begley. He said that it could be a fulfillment of what was written in the book of the prophet Joel that says that the sun shall be turned to darkness before the Day of the Lord comes. He added that it could mean that mankind is now living in its final days.
Gary Ray wrote in "Unsealed" that this year 2017 will mark the beginning of the great tribulation – a time of great sufferings never before experienced in history. A report from the UK Daily Star mentioned a verse in Isaiah that stars in heaven will withdraw their light, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light before the appearance of Jesus on earth.
The same source said that the eclipse signals the commencement of World War 3 as the US and North Korea conflict can spark the war.
The above prophecies about the heavenly bodies not functioning, as usual, the great tribulation, and the supernatural wonders signaling the end of the times are Biblical. But there is end-of-the-world prophesies that people believe nowadays that are baseless and false.
According to Heavy, there is a belief that an eclipse that lasts more than one day will usher in the end of the world, and the dead will live again to eat the living. The same source added that there is a belief of the Chinese and the Indians that an eclipse is a monstrous being that eats the sun. So the Chinese would create clanging noise using pots and pans to drive away the dreaded being.
Conspiracy theorists recently claimed that a planet (Planet X) will collide with the Earth on September 23. This is seen as the signal of the beginning of the world's destruction. This claim stemmed from Christian numerologist David Meade’s information that he has determined the day that Planet X and the apocalypse are coming. The said planet's gravitational pull will supposedly destroy the Earth. Meade also said that it will be the end of the world reports Heavy.
Signs of the end of the world seen on astronomical events
The above source also cited that Gary Ray declared that the eclipse and the September 23 astronomical events are only signs of Jesus Christ’s second coming. He informed that the upcoming occurrence has already been written in the Book of Revelation Chapter 12.
Ray's claims are true concerning the signs of the second coming but all claims stating a “date” are all false because according to the Bible, no one knows when it will come but only the Heavenly Father.
Matthew 24:36 of the Bible states that even Jesus the Son and the angels do not know the exact date of his second coming. But God gave signs as to the end of the world. All of the signs are clearly written in the Bible. Matthew 24:3-31 enumerated the signs such as wars and rumors of wars, pestilence, famine, and earthquakes in various places which are the beginning of great sorrows.
