President Barrack Obama implemented during his term the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (ACA) or what is simply known now as Obamacare. It almost totally redefines the access of Americans to health insurance. Obamacare protects patients from unreasonable health insurance practices and reduced its cost. Health insurance companies can no longer exclude you or raise premiums if you were suddenly you were diagnosed with a pre-existing or dreaded disease. More and more Americans were able to get greater access to better and cheaper health insurance because of the law.
Donald Trump and the Republican Party have been trying very hard to repeal Obamacare. The Guardian reported that their latest motion to repeal Obamacare and change it with their own health care law was defeated in a GOP controlled Senate. Senator John McCain, a party stalwart, crossed party lines together with two other senators, to vote against the new law to repeal Obamacare. The final tally showed 49 approved the repeal and 51 voted against it. The vote deprived Trump of its first major legislative victory in his six months of the chaotic administration.
Donald Trump makes threats and insults Senate
Prior to the Senate voting, 49 -51 against the repeal of Obamacare, President Donald Trump threatened the Senate if the American Health Care Act (HACA) failed to repeal Obamacare (ACA).
He said that he was willing to cancel the Senators’ summer break until the ACA is repealed. Existing provisions against Senators will be implemented if they fail to deliver. He is prepared to stop all payments to health care providers under ACA or Obamacare. But, despite the threats, the Skinny Bill failed to pass in the senate.
After the news of the Senate’s failure to repeal ACA circulated, Donald Trump started his rant on twitter. At first, he seemed to let things ride its course and let Obamacare fail by itself and that would make Congress repeal it. But Donald Trump is Donald Trump, he cannot pass this opportunity to tweet his rants against his disappointments.
His twits talk of GOP Senators looking like fools because of the defeat. They will be a bunch of quitters too if they don’t try again he said.
Why did the Skinny bill to repeal Obamacare failed?
A lot of people will answer that question with a very simple answer. Because Sen. John McCain and two other female GOP Senators crossed party line to vote against the repeal. But why did they go against their own party wishes? The Republican Party has been trying to kill Obamacare since the law was passed. We may need to search further for the reasons behind all these questions.
Whether one cares to admit it or not, there are lots of Republican legislators who love portions of the law - not to mention that their constituents like the law.
Nobody can deny the fact that millions of American are dependent on Obamacare for their health care and they do not want to lose these benefits. The most telling reason could be the failure of the party on the exact law that they need to pass to repeal Obamacare and how the new law would look like. What would the new law achieve, its goals and how it will fix the problems in Obamacare whether they are imagined or otherwise. Unless they can agree on this fundamental policy Obamacare will stay even if Donald Trump turns blue or green in his anger for their continued failure.
