Earlier this year, news of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt going through divorce rocked Hollywood and the whole world. And we didn't think things could get worse. Now that Chris Pratt and Anna Faris have released a joint statement via their social media accounts saying that they are separating, many are wondering, is it impossible to have a happy ending in Hollywood?
'We tried hard'
Such a statement can be interpreted in two ways: that they have been having marital troubles for a while and tried to make it work, or that they did not try hard enough.
For an eight-year marriage, however, it seems they have given it their all. Pratt and Faris share a son, Jack, who will be turning 5 this month. Having a child is usually one reason that couples try their best to avoid a divorce. When worse comes to worst, sadly, even having a child is not enough to tie two people together.
The former couple announced that they still have a love for each other and that Jack will have two parents "who love him very much." Jack is also the reason they want the divorce to be as private as possible. Given the situation, it's the best they can give a young son.
Married to everyone
Hollywood has a bad track record of seeing couples break up even after years of being together.
Though Brangelina was only married in 2014, they have been together for much longer. Jolie has been divorced twice before, both coincidentally lasting only three years each. Pitt has been married to Jennifer Aniston for five years before they ended it in 2005.
Faris was Pratt's first wife, while Faris herself has been married to Ben Idra from 2004-2008.
Pratt and Faris got married in 2009.
The problem with Hollywood marriages, however, is that they are not only married to each other. With movies and shows taking up their time, and the promotions associated with these, there is little privacy left to enjoy in the marriage. Though Pratt and Faris have not been linked to any major scandal and it may seem hard to ponder what could have caused the failure of their wedding, there are issues such as pressure, stress, constant traveling, and rumors that surround every Hollywood couple.
Both Pratt and Faris enjoy successful careers, with Pratt being the leading actor in blockbuster films such as "Guardians of the Galaxy," "Jurassic World," and "Passengers." Faris has been involved in projects such as "What's Your Number?" and "Take Me Home Tonight."
If two fun-loving celebrities could not make a marriage work, is there still hope for other Hollywood couples? We're looking at Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith for some inspiration.
