The story of Castlevania revolves around the Belmont clan and their never ending fight with the big daddy of vampires and the sepulchral bad-ass, Count Dracula himself. In its story, Dracula resurrects every hundred years and the Belmonts, as it became a family tradition, would have to put Dracula back to sleep. Just recently an adaptation of the video game was released on Netflix and has garnered mixed reviews and feedback from its viewers and other critics.
The first episode in the series focused more on Dracula and how he came to hate the people of Wallachia when his wife was burned at the stake after being falsely accused of witchcraft.
He then declared war on the land, cursing its people and summoned an army of monsters and demons to bring an end to all of its inhabitants.
A Classic
Castlevania draws inspiration from Dracula, the classic horror novel by Irish author Bram Stoker. Pretty much like in the novel, Dracula is the main antagonist throughout the series of the game. Simon Belmont, the first of his family to appear in the "Castlevania" series defeated Dracula in the year 1961 where Dracula cursed Simon and all of Transylvania after getting KTFO, making an epic game plot. The Castlevania series became such a classic hit that it continued to spawn other titles and thrived when it was ported to numerous gaming platforms such as the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Sega Mega Drive, Sega Saturn, PC Engine, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo DS, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, PSP, MSX2, C64, Sharp X6800, and PC platforms.
Perspective for Castlevania
There is no doubt that "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" is one of the best titles in the series, a potential remake or something similar is something fans would appreciate. However, Konami has been known to produce crazy, if not cool versions of the game. At one point Konami even announced the release of Castlevania themed pachinko.
Ultimately, fans would like to see titles that could be played longer, a game where you can build your player and add more element of character development as you progress through the game. The game had been known to give birth to an era called Metroidvania, a game that generally features a large interconnected world map the player can explore, though access to parts of the world is often limited by doors or other portals that can only be opened after the player has acquired special items, tools, weapons or abilities within the game.
A new Castlevania game could prove beneficial to Konami if done right. All the hype with Castlevania could give birth to a new and exciting game that could add to what is already a staple in action-horror.
