The G20 summit is currently being held in Hamburg, Germany where the United States and the Russian Presidents had a prolonged face-to-face meeting on Friday. Mr. Trump later said that they had a pretty good discussion about the alleged Russian interference on the US Presidential Elections held last year. He also indicated to work in a more constructive and positive way with Russia in the near future.
Trump and Russian interference in US politics
After Trump was elected as the US President in 2016, reliable sources reported about the Russian cyber intrusion that manipulated the US electoral results.
It helped Mr. Trump to secure his win against Hillary Clinton, a tough contender and acquire his position as the US President.
There were huge speculations about Putin’s direct involvement during the elections. A probe, led by Robert Mueller has been formed to investigate about the same and Trump’s possible collusion with Russia. POTUS Donald Trump has been facing these allegations since he replaced Barrack Obama and the charges have constantly haunted him during his first few months in the White House. As per Mr. Trump, Putin has strongly denied any such allegations upon questioning about the same. The Russian Foreign Minister confirmed that Trump accepted the claims made by Putin that the allegations were false.

However, he is facing tremendous criticism from his own party members as well as various other political circles who are vehemently disapproving the decision.
The people of United States of America are not comfortable with the idea of working with Russia. The current talks with Putin might have ended on a positive note but Trump is going to face tough criticism when he returns home. It was their first meet and speculations were high regarding the possibilities and outcomes from the meeting.
The tete-a-tete continued for two hours and fifteen minutes and both the parties had a serious discussion on a list of topics. Various other topics including climate change, foreign relations and trade opportunities between both the countries were discussed during the meeting. But the Russian meddling during US Presidential elections took the center stage for obvious reasons.
