May 6 and May 7 was opening weekend for Cedar Point, the Roller Coaster Capital of the World. It is the 148th season for the Amusement Park located in Sandusky, OH, on the shores of Lake Erie. Each season, the park introduces new things for their guests, and this year is no different.
Cedar Point Shores Waterpark
The big, new addition for this season is Cedar Point Shores Waterpark. There was already a waterpark at Cedar Point, but it just got a serious upgrade. Located right next to Cedar Point, Cedar Point Shores is set along the stunning Cedar Point Beach.
The 18 acre waterpark will open up on Memorial Day weekend.
Some of the new attractions at Cedar Point Shores will include Point Plummet, Portside Plunge, Lakeside Landing, and new cabanas. Point Plummet is perfect for those looking for thrills. The water ride is a six-story slide where the floor drops out from underneath, taking those brave enough down a near vertical free fall. Riders must be at least 48" tall to ride Point Plummet.
Another new addition to Cedar Point Shores is Portside Plunge. This inner tube ride allows riders to ride alone or with a partner. Portside Plunge takes guests through lots of exciting tunnels and hills. For guests with little kids, Lakeside Landing is the ideal destination, with a dozen smaller slides that will keep the little ones entertained, cool, and safe.
There will be lots of food options at Cedar Point Shores with menus that include delicious wraps, fresh salads, pizza and more. There is also Schooner’s Bayside Bar and Muffleheads Beach Bar, which is the perfect spot for the grown-ups to grab a cold drink on a hot summer day.
Changes inside the park
Cedar Point also has some upgrades going on inside of the park this season.
Professor Delbert’s Frontier Fling can be found on the popular Frontier Trail. This attraction will take riders up high and then send them into a free-fall swing. The ride will give guests amazing and unique views of the park and Lake Erie, while reaching speeds of up to 60 mph.
For those who love theatre, the show Lights, Camera, Action!
will need to be on their itinerary. Songs will be performed from many well-known musicals. The shows will take place at the Jack Aldrich Theatre from June 3rd to August 20th.
On Friday, May 12, Cedar Point will be permanently open for the 2017 season. The hours on that Friday are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or at Cedar Point. Admission to Cedar Point Shores is not included with regular Cedar Point admission, but there are combo tickets that can be purchased.
