Micki Davis, 63, and her Grandson went to her son’s former girlfriend’s house in Wichita, Kansas shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Sunday to pick up some of her son, Jacob Gillespie’s belongings. As reported by CBS News, a fight reportedly ensued and 35-year-old Rachael Hilyard, who used to date Davis’ son, began assaulting the Wichita grandmother. Davis’ nine-year-old grandson then became frightened and grabbed his grandmother’s cellphone before fleeing the house. Once outside, he then immediately dialed 911 to report the ongoing assault. Fortunately the grandson was unharmed in the incident.

Police arrive to find the Wichita grandmother’s decapitated body

When the police arrived on the scene, the grandson directed them to Hilyard’s house. However, they were unable to get an answer at the door and were then told by the boy that the assault had happened in the garage, where they were collecting her son’s belongings.

According to Lt. Todd Ojile of the Wichita Police, when entering the garage, officers discovered Davis’ decapitated body. Police then searched the home and finally tracked down 35-year-old Hilyard, hiding in one of the rooms.

Hilyard was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and booked into Sedgwick County Jail on Sunday evening. The case will be heard by the district attorney’s office on either Tuesday or Wednesday next week.

Hilyard had a criminal record

On investigation into Hilyard’s background it was uncovered that she had a record with the Kansas Department of Corrections.

She reportedly spent time in Community Corrections in Sedgwick Country on four counts of drug possession between September 2013 and May 2015.
