The Klu Klux Klan isn’t just something you read about in history books. It is still an active organization in the United States and now, they aren’t afraid to publicly announce their cross-burning rallies. The Loyal White Knights of the KKK recently proclaimed that it will be holding a cross-burning rally in Asheborro, N.C. The white supremacist group posted on their website, KKKKnights, that the event will take place on May 6 and will include a Klavern meeting, speeches, dinner, and the cross lighting at dark.
No other information was available but the flier did mention, “WHITES ONLY. NO DRINKING, NO DRUGS, NO WEAPONS."
Racism is on the rise
When Donald Trump was elected the 45th president of the United States in November, it was one of the biggest upsets in American political history, and racism appears to be on the rise. Many KKK members were happy with the election results and voiced their support for the new president.
Many white supremacist leaders, such as the billionaire real estate mogul David Duke, showed their support for Trump and during the election, he was even endorsed by the official KKK newspaper, the Crusader.
The Loyal White Knights had a parade for Trump. The same group that is hosting this cross burning rally paraded through the streets in Roxboro in vehicles after Trump won the election. There were also many other celebrations around the state, but anti-klan protests sprang up to counter them.
Asheboro congressman denounced the rally
After the cross burning event was published, the city of Asheboro condemned the rally on Facebook stating that it is against “in the strongest terms possible the message of hate and division advocated by the Ku Klux Klan and its affiliates.”
The city's mayor, David Smith, went on to say "the people of Asheboro have worked too hard to unify our community to let an outside group come in and spread racist views without raising our voices loudly in protest." They want to make it clear that this is not an event supported by the city.
