A women’s march occurred in the wake of President Trump’s accession to the Oval Office. Some people are planning a March for Science occurring on Earth Day for some reason. Anti-Trumpers are calling for a mass revolt in the street if counter what they claim is a slide toward fascism. Now, according to the Washington Examiner, Trump has suggested that the mother of all protests happen, the “make america great March.”
“Maybe the millions of people who voted to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN should have their own rally. It would be the biggest of them all!”
Trump has personally been able to draw huge crowds to his campaign Rallies, sometimes in the tens of thousands.
Even the recent rally Florida drew up to 10,000 people. So, if Trump supporters take the queue from the president and put something together, they would send a powerful political message akin to the birth of the Tea Party in 2009 when, ultimately, millions turned out across the United States and proved to be such an aggravation to the Obama administration and its supporters.
Trump is still keen to move an agenda that includes tax cuts, the repeal and replace of Obamacare and a massive infrastructure project. Some people in the media and even some within the Republican Party have expressed doubt that these things can happen, despite the president’s election mandate. Organized protests at Republican congressional townhalls have started to make some members of Congress go wobbly about what needs to be done.
So, a signal that the Trump agenda still has support in the form of a day of mass protest would not be a bad thing from the president’s perspective. Of course, the numbers would have to be so overwhelming that even the media could not cast doubt on the size of the uprising, at least with any credibility. The protests also have to be peaceful as well as organized.
The media will no doubt focus on a few with objectionable signs or who chant inappropriate things or, having failed to find such instances, will try to make them up. Here too the president has been adroit at attacking the media, much to that august institution’s distress. But Trump has become a master of politics as war, which is how his opponents seem to regard it in any case.
