PatientPop is a new digital platform for medical practices that helps improve the relationship between doctors and patients. It offers professionals in the medical field a web and social media presence that allows them to grow their reputation via patient surveys. Since its launch in August 2018 PatientPop has since gone on to partner with Amazon’s Alexa for voice search and features a wealth of database capabilities.

Luke Kervin, the co-founder, and co-CEO of PatientPop discussed the organization, its mission, and the plans for the future via an exclusive interview on December 20, 2018.

Doctors, patients, and benefits

Meagan Meehan (MM): What made you decide to create PatientPop, and how long did it take to launch?

Luke Kervin (LK): When my wife was pregnant with our first child, we didn’t have a great patient experience. Through the process of preparing to bring a healthy baby into the world, I quickly realized that, although many other industries apply technology to solve problems, there was a shocking lack of innovative technology in healthcare. I knew I could apply much of my experience in e-commerce to improve the healthcare experience for patients.

That was the impetus behind the idea for PatientPop. PatientPop started in 2014, only a short time after the experience with my wife’s pregnancy in 2013. We saw an urgent need and moved quickly with the opportunity.

MM: What about this solution is most beneficial to doctors and patients and how do you promote it?

LK: PatientPop is a complete practice growth solution that helps healthcare and dental practices attract new patients, manage their online reputation, modernize the patient experience, and automate office tasks.

We also integrate with more than 60 Electronic Medical Records systems. This creates a remarkably streamlined experience for practices and their patients because PatientPop works with what practices already have in place. The outcome is that we bring doctors the highest level of efficiency and ease. Doctors want to focus on their patients, and PatientPop helps them connect with every patient in their EMR - enhancing and expanding the patient-practice connection to benefit everyone.

MM: How many users do you currently have?

LK: Without citing exact numbers, there are thousands of practices across the U.S. on the PatientPop platform.

Partnership, practices, and hopes

MM: How did you start to partner with other systems and companies?

LK: Many of the biggest names in healthcare, such as athenahealth, have partnered with us for years. We also recently secured a huge capital of growth all round which was led by Leerink Transformation Partners (LTP) who are among the very best American investment firms that specialize in healthcare. At PatientPop, we continuously monitor emerging trends and innovate our practice growth solution.

The strategic business partnerships we pursue are ones that we know will ultimately help our customers succeed.

MM: What are your biggest hopes for the future of PatientPop and how do you envision it evolving?

LK: We’ll continue to accelerate product innovation and market expansion. We’re always evolving to ensure our practices, and their patients have the most advanced technology for practice growth. Our healthcare and technology experts are constantly updating our solution to make sure we adapt to industry changes and consumer expectations. Practices can expect that we’ll continue to add to our practice growth platform with features that help the patient journey, from the first time we help a practice get found online, to the ongoing communication that occurs between patient and provider.
